shame really cause i got an amd 2.3 ghz laptop with 4 gigs of ram but it doesnt have firewire card or even a slot port :*(

Yes a 2.0ghz with 4gigs of RAM will work just fine for Capture and also Studio One is what I use.
It all depends exactly what you want to do. If your wanting a full blown plug in and play hassle free DAW machine Presonus recommends a i7 MBP or if you like PC another great plug in and play hassle free PC machine is i7 Rain Livebook which comes optional with a USB3 port since that's where the next generation of DAW world is heading.

Both Mac or PC are full blown plug in play DAW machine so you can edit till your hearts content. If you wanna save some money and rather buy audio gear such as mics because eventually your latest and greatest plug in and play DAW will eventually be outdated and obsolete because I been using DAWs since 99 and seen my share of computers, software ,and interfaces come and go.
Get a used or refurb mac or PC doesn't matter they all become obsolete eventually.

I have got a good pc at home that i mainly do my editing and mastering.

i only want to use the laptop to record the channels so i can take it back home and work on it.

i mainly record live worship at church and we sometimes have use up to 18 channels. Normally we record it on tape using an analogue mixer but it is so outdated and i actually want to mix the live sets.

so i guess the main question is.... do i need a fast laptop if i want to record around 18 channels or more

Hmm 2nd hand macs... Never thOught about that...

Is there a minimum requirement or rEcommended to record studiolive. Isn't i7 bit too excessive if I just want to record 20 channels live on the go

Hey all, i am about to purchase myself a SL 24.4.2 but at the moment my laptop is very outdated and doesnt have a firewire connection.

I want to buy myself a new laptop so I can record on the road.

I always see people on youtube using macbook pros including the main man Rick himself but I really dont want to spend that money just to record audio.

If i was going to buy myself a laptop does it have to be a mac and if not, what are the essentials to have (Firewire, processor power, HD space, Ram etc.)

Thanks!

Aaron
