PRESONUS products are not reliable:
- I have a firestudio project that had to be fixed after a year. They had to change the motherboard.
- It worked for 2 weeks, and now it cannot be switched on anymore. It's dead. I have to return it to store.
- I bought a new studiolive 24. I used it twice and the third mic preamp was dead. Return to the store for an exchange.
- I got a second new studiolive 24 a few days later, and the first time I tried to connect it to my computer, the firmware update totally blocked the studiolive. Result: send it back to presonus!

And now I just see that they are releasing a new studiolive 16.0.4!!!
Maybe they should try to improve their products before making new ones!

Goodbye Presonus. I've wasted a lot of time and some money.
Just an advice for people looking for a mixing console: DON'T BUY PRESONUS!

Wow! Hi, Ericaw.
Thanks for replying ! U really "had it". Looks like besides system requirements, selective chips requirements, Presonus products have some astrology requirements ... I was going to give a try to FireStudio Mobile even though Midi I/O are hanging on the "ropes" like toys on Christmas tree...sorry " Lady Gaga" view . But i`m curious about their Studio 1 software and 2 FW ports and again, Presonus products do look really nice, which matters to me. I got new "furniture" 27' iMac, called Apple Care- they have no idea what FW chip is in it ( Advised me to find out on forums or blogs- Isn`t that cute?) . Gambling... Now... i`m Scorpio... Does it go together with FireStudio "ropes"... ?? Hard questions...Any way..
" Some shall be pardon`d, and some punished;
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of ........ and his Presonus "

Thanks ! Good Luck . With respect.

I have a big problem. When I connected my studiolive 24 for the first time to my computer, I was asked to update firmware. So I followed the instructions. Then i was asked to restore or reset the user presets. I choosed to keep my user presets.
But then I saw that the studiolive was blocked on the "presonus Studiolive" screen and nothing was happening anymore. So after a while, i tried to restart the studiolive and my computer but the studiolive is now frozen. When I switch it on, the "presonus studiolive" screen stays and nothing works. There are just a few buttons illuminated but they don't work. I tried to force firmware update but the studiolive appearance doesn't change at all. Help please!!!!

Hi ! Did U solve your problem ? How ? Thanks

The first time I connected my studiolive, it was with a PC (Windows 7) but then I also tried to solve the problem on my Mac but it didn't work as well.
Do you have any idea?
Thanks

Hi, Ericaw. Unfortunately I`m not even nearly that experienced to help U, just trying to get some knowledge about FW interfaces. Planing on getting one. Sorry, U need the good Tech Support help. Thanks. Good Luck. Please keep posting how it`s going.
With respect .

.....The whole Firewire audio thing, particularly with laptop/notebook PCs, doesn't seem to be very well defined, at least not at the user end. There are more variables than most of us can control. There are ExpressCard Firewire adapters (for computers with that card slot) that have the holy grail TI chip set that still don't work with some audio hardware. Sometimes changing the way the computer handles battery power can help, sometimes (most of the time, actually) disabling networking, particularly WiFi, helps. But without a Firewire port, you can't even get that far.

I think this is one the places where Macs have the edge over PCs -- less permutations of hardware configuration to deal with, and hardware configurations that usually just work. They may be more expensive, but if you depend on it, a few extra bucks on a computer that works coming out of the box and into the future is well worth a few extra $ to me. Without wanting to start the PC/Mac wars here, I would encourage you to at least consider a Mac.

You guys are miles ahead of me on the technical aspect of this subject so I can't offer any dialogue of value in that arena. On the other hand, as a guy living in the Microsoft world for many years, and a novice to the world of digital mixers and recording interfaces, I can tell you that as soon as I flopped a Mac down on the desk, everything just worked. Instantly, painlessly, and perfectly. I fought it (Macs) for years, mostly because I'm locked in a Microsoft world with my business. But at home, I've made the switch and never looked back. It just keeps getting better. Presonus + Mac = Peace of Mind. My recommendation is to spend your time and money making music instead of jackin' with compatibility issues.
Big Daddy

Hi, Gurus ! Hi , Big Daddy ! Approximately 1 year ago i began to build PC DAW, invested in dicent processor, PCY card ,software "Sonar" - and.... my PC motherboard died. I decided to switch to ever brilliant Mac. Bought $1700 IMac, $400 Logic Pro and Alesis 6 Multimix USB mixer/ audio interface (just to break the ground) . Tried M- Audio Fast track Pro interface with IMac- doesnt work. M- Audio officially posted on their site : No drivers for latest Mac 10.6.7 leopard version. Hooked up Alesis USB mixer/ interface: getting high pitch noise in USB/ Input (recording) mode. About this high pitch noise on Mac u can read all over the forums on web. I hooked up both interfaces ( M Audio and Alesis USB) to cheap $400, 4 years old "Tochiba" laptop PC Vista, sitting on the next table- no problem what so ever- no noise , clean sound. To my dismay, on forums ALoo..T of Mac guys having problems with firewire interfaces, which i am going to get, including "Apogee". I spoke to Apple "Service"- they DONT CARE : that`s consumer and audio interface manufacturers problem- Apple is pristine and superb. Did i wasted the money on Apple ?- Yes, Absolutely ! Do i regret that ? NO, Absolutely No. I am curious and like new techno toys. Of course i`ll solve the problems. Among the other important things i learned first hand, thanks to Mac " involvement " are these : No way !! Mac is better than PC or vice versa, both do have many problems. Of course, Mac looks better in fashion derartment which matters not only to the bride but to the groom as well. Any Mac machine always cost more than two times ! cost PC machine with the same specs. BTW, if u badly want to compare - the fair question is : What is better - Mac or two PC ? IMHO, the most practical , productive and perspective solution is to have BOTH systems , side by side without interbreeding. So, get Mac , get PC and dont wary, sooner or later all of them will break. And untill then U will ALWAYS have headache.
