Automation which can be done on the track should also be allowed to be done on an event.

Studio One General Discussion » Draw a volume or pan envelope inside the event? » Go to message
Hello,

I may have found a workaround to adding the volume envelope and then bouncing the event in place:

Put the event alone on an audio track.
Add let’s say volume automation below the track. For test purposes make the nodes extreme so the edit will be easy to see.
Find a VST fx that does nothing initially so it is benign and drag it to the track.

Go to track>transform> transform to rendered audio
Check > Preserve real time state but it also works I believe if not checked.
Check > auto tail but this is not important.
Click OK

Then you get t a warning “An unexpected error occurred in the application or one of the pluggins”
But is seems well. At this point the volume envelope is reflected on the event so I bounce it in place to make sure I have it!
Save!

I hope this help until we are able to freely draw the volume envelope on the event and bounce it retaining the edit. Ok, this is my official feature request. go to minute 6:20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYMNx46MGmo&feature=player_de tailpage#t=384s

In this case, you can just export your Song. Choose Export Mixdown from the Song menu. Now, you can set, what do you want to export (between which markers), and the format, of course.

What I want to do is record in real time the Event that I am manipulating to itself or to a track in the song.

Let me explain. I select an Event and loop it. I then manipulate the Event in real time with the Listen Tool or any other crazy ways. As I am doing this I listen and experiment in real time. I want to record the audio that I hear. It seems to me that anything that I can hear from the speakers I should be able to record in real time inside the song. Am I wrong?

Is your sound source from the Studio One Only?

If yes, you can route all your signal to the Bus, and create new track, where you set this Bus as input source.

If not, you can plug the Line Output of your soundcard to the Input of the same sound card, and just record it.

Hello Martin,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Keep in mind that I am a Noob!

My sound source is me playing around on an audio event with some effect, the Listen Tool or just moving around the Event. I do not have any external synths. I only use VST and VSTi.

Not very familiar with busses. How do I route the audio from the Event to the Track. On My Track I have Bus 1 and Bus 2.

Hello,

I am intermediate about a few things and compete noob at many others. Here is the evidence (that I am a noobie):

How can I record the audio of that which I can hear through the speakers. In other word as I am playing around on an audio event with some effect, the Listen Tool or just moving around the event and I like what I hear, how do I record what I hear in real time. It would be nice to be able to record multiple takes.

This is very embarrassing. I tried your suggestions without success. So I tried another project and the way I was originally doing it from the Browser worked just fine. I re-opened first project and all is well. I had already tried this prior and it did not work. Your suggestion did work when it was all well and done.

Just to be safe I had my headphones on to detect the panning. Too bad the changes visually do not show as they happen but after the bounce. So may had some success but could not visually see it. But I did bounce on many occasions to be double sure. So obviously I screwed up somehow!

3. I used the Binaural Pan to make the mono event then set the track to mono then bounce.

So thanks for the suggestions. Now I know that there is an Inspector with many goodies. Good to know I can get good help here.

Hello,

1. I need to swap the stereo on the event and bounce it. Does the Mix Tool only work on the track? I was able to Alt drag and drop the Mix Tool to the event but had no effect on the panning. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

2. How about left/right volume control on the event and then bounce it.

3. To mono either the L or R channel in the event and then bounce it.

4. Is there a way to get the Listen Tool to hear only the left or the right?

In this thread I am not asking to draw the pan parameters I just want to pan left or right on the event.
I already have a similar RF here http://forumsarchive.presonus.com/posts/list/35048.page

Very well said! “Take the existing track automation abilities and port it down to the event level.”

VSTf = VSTfx = VST = VST effects
VSTi = VST instrument

VST is always a VST fx however for clarity I use VSTf. In the case of Studio One 2.5 we now have VSTf for the events. Drag the VStf use the Alt and drop into the desired event. So there is progress!

Sorry for the confusion.

Automation effects for events. Where do I sign?

Perhaps give the event a temporary audio track? A free floating track that contains one event? The length of the event? With an automatic looping so it can easily be edited?

Obviously anything the PreSonus does must follow the rule of workflow simplicity and easy to learn.

I have some comments about the workaround for drawing volume and pan parameters and some will also apply to VSTf.: http://forumsarchive.presonus.com/posts/list/29208.page

Forget the above. In place editing and all automation of the event is the way to go. Having the event in place in the track makes the workflow more useful.
Studio One General Discussion » Draw a volume or pan envelope inside the event? » Go to message
Hello,

I reviewed the complete thread and here is my summary:

There are several possible work arounds to draw a volume, pan, mute or pitch envelope inside the event in the style of Reaper and other DAW’s and samplers. Darn if Studio One wasn’t such a great DAW I would consider switching.

1. Find a VSTf (VST fx) that allows to freely drawing the parameters and has nodes to edit inside an event. My three failed attempts to find a VSTf that will accomplish the OP requirements. I certainly can also use such an effect.

The Tal-Filter http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-filter

Cableguys VolumeShaper http://www.cableguys.de/volume-shaper.html

Sculpto http://www.stillwellaudio.com/plugins/schwa-plugins/sculpto/

2. Make number 1. with SynthEdit. Can someone volunteer their time and talent?

3. Drag and drop the audio event directly or from the Pool into a VSTi sampler. Yes you can drag and drop into SampleOne but it does not have a volume editing graph. I tried to drag and drop into Kontakt 4 without any success. Any suggestions on what other sampler to try?

4. I tried dragging the event into another DAW, Reaper and the stand alone Wavosaur without success. But maybe I am doing something wrong. Also why not try a wave editor like Wavelab or Samplitude?

5. PreSonus follows my Feature request Automation for Events and Parts http://forumsarchive.presonus.com/posts/list/35048.page

I found another VSTf that that allows the volume to be controlled graphically.
Sculpto
http://www.stillwellaudio.com/plugins/schwa-plugins/sculpto/
this is fun to play with though probably not exactly what the OP wants.

The Dyno also looks interesting
http://www.stillwellaudio.com/plugins/schwa-plugins/dyno/
if I find time to try it I will report back with the comments

Now with the drag and Alt and drop onto the event we have event based VSTf. Wonderful.

The Tal-Filter is a VSTf http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-filter
It works just fine on the events but unfortunately does not do exactly what OP had in mind.

I also tried the VSTf Cableguys VolumeShaper http://www.cableguys.de/volume-shaper.html and works fine though again I believe it isn’t exactly the OP had in mind. So it is very feasible that such a VSTf may actually exist.

A VSTf that will have the feature that allows one to freely draw a volume and pan envelope for an audio event is something I can use. Such a VSTf if it does not exist can probably be made using SynthEdit in a couple of hours. Or a bit longer? Any volunteers?
Studio One Feature Requests » Automation for Events and Parts » Go to message
On the volume/fade envelope inside events it would be great to be able to click and add more nodes. It is great to be able to freely draw the volume parameters. Any other method also would be great if there was an envelope inside the event for panning, transpose, tune and speedup. This is a common feature on many DAW’s.

Alternatively the automation on the track can be allowed to be saved on the event when it is bounced. Presently when the event gets bounced the automation is not bounced with the event.

Sorry if this FR was already mentioned.
