Digital Audio Recording » Setting levels on main out bus » Go to message
I'm using Studio One 2 Producer. I usually try to keep the levels on the main out bus at around -12dB and I use a
Waves Renaissance compressor on the main out at around 2:1 with a max attenuation of -3dB.

Is it better (more efficient, easier, etc) to keep the main out fader set a 0dB and keep the individual track levels lower to achieve this or should I set the individual track levels hotter and reduce the level using the main out level slider?

I understand that digital is not like analog and I don't need to have pegging at close to 0dB. I just have to make sure nothing clips. Just interested in getting some opinions.

We all have our reasons for liking or disliking a particular product. Just look at the requested features thread and I'm sure the same thread is active on other DAW sites where their users are refering to advantages they see in S1. I guess the message is that you can't and won't please everyone, no matter how much you try.

I know there are some features in S1 that 'I' would like to see added or improved but does it mean that I will not use S1? No. As long as there are more +++s than ---s I'll keep on using it. I'll request the features that I'd like to have and if enough users request the same features they might be added.

In the meantime, I'll just keep telling anyone who asks that S1 is, to me, the best DAW out there right now IMHO.

You're right about the sound quality. I switched over from Mackie's Tracktion a few months ago and I also noticed a subtle difference in sound. Even stems recorded in Tracktion sound clearer with more headroom and dynamic range (or so it appears to me).

And as for workflow? I must admit I had a bit of a problem learning and understanding S1 vs the DAW that I had been using for the past 5 years but that is probably more a function of my learning abilities and not necessarily an S1 problem. Let's face it: some days I can't find the horn on my car!

Like most new things learned, it is difficult until that moment of epiphany when it all clicks and everything comes together.
From that moment on you are flying, baby!

Now, if that income tax refund can just get here, I might upgrade from Producer to Pro.

Hey, guys, Presonus is a business and not a charitable, non-profit organization. To develop better products they spend money on knowledgable staff, high tech equipment, market research, manufacturing, distribution et al. This money comes from sales.

Sure, they offer a version that is a lost-leader and it is there to entice users to spend money on a better version of whatever product you're looking for. Compare there prices to some of the other products out there and Presonus ain't so bad.

My father always told me that there is no such thing as a free lunch. I, for one, see no problem with paying to get something better and right now, S1 2.5 Producer is it for me. Let's face it, I am not RCA's Nashville Studio B. I'm a home recordist. My total investment in S1, with the Audiobox USB and upgrade, came to less than $300.00.

I'm not going to complain.

Anyone seen the prices PT is asking for these days?

It is, in part, due to Johnny that I switched to S1. I wanted to move up from Tracktion and after researching other DAWs, I saw Johnny's videos on S1. I also saw Joe Gilder at Home Studio Corner move from PT to S1. These two gentlemen convinced me.

It takes a special mindset to invest the time in being an educator and not necessarily expect an immediate return, if any, on the time spent in teaching. A big thank you for taking the time to do it.

Use it in parallel for vocals, drums, bass, kazoo, whatever. Very low settings on main bus for saturation effect.

Just switched over from Tracktion to Studio One Producer a few months ago and I haven't looked back. Best investment I could have made.
Upgrade to Producer. You won't regret it.

Studio One Tips and Tricks » Change scroll speed » Go to message
I should have been more concise. Yes, it is when editing that I would like to slow down the scrolling speed. There is no monitoring or playback occuring when doing this.

Is there a way to slow down the position line/cursor scrolling speed?

Re: I don't know what the heck is going on here but my response was not to this question or even this thread??!!

Oooh, scary!

Must be the same gremlins. They don`t want to be exposed.

As for my original problem, I now see a tiny AB USB icon in the botton right corner of the lower toolbar in Windows 7. Now where the hell did that come from? Regardless, it appears to be working. When clicked it gives me access to the parameters I was looking for.
AudioBox USB » Can't access AudioBox USB » Go to message
Not quite sure what you're refering to.

I have nothing to install. S1 and AB USB are all up and running with the most recent updates.

My problem is that I cannot open the AB USB to access the sample rate or the ASIO buffer size.
AudioBox USB » Can't access AudioBox USB » Go to message
I had a problem a few weeks ago accessing my AudioBox USB to change the settings. I could only access it after each pc start but now, I can't access it at all.

It makes no difference if I click on the desktop icon, go to the programs file or use the control panel. I have downloaded the latest driver and checked all that I could think of (and that may be my problem).

Anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this and what I should be checking?

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.
Studio One Tips and Tricks » Change scroll speed » Go to message
Been using S1 for about a month now and I'm totally in love with it. There is one thing that I would like to know more about and that is the scroll speed. There are different ways to scroll either with the mouse or the keyboard but is there a way to change the speed at which the scroll occurs? If so, how?
