16.4.2 » change routing of the "time delay" in the sub outs in the next update please » Go to message
i'm going to *duck* after posting this, but i thought about this exact feature, but in a different scenario....

was bored one day doing a gig that was essentially karoke (CD + vocals), was using reverb on the vocals and delay (where needed) and had this idea of sending the vocals to 2 sub groups and panning each one hard left and hard right, delaying them by 1ms or 2 and then adding them to the main mix for a chorus/vocal doubling effect.
Whilst i could just double the vocal using the sub group, the thought in my head was that all that would happen was that the vocals would be louder. having the delayed sub group back to the mains, would mean i could experiment and be a bit more creative.

Now i'm not saying that this is a "to die for" feature, but i can definitely see some uses for it.

*duck* - wow jerry almost got me that time no hard feelings
16.4.2 » Gain Reduction Full Redline on Startup, no out or in signals, Solutions? » Go to message
just a quick question, are you experiencing the gain reduction on all channels or only the main?

i had this issue a while back with one of the firmwares, where a reboot fixed it, but eventually a reboot stopped fixing it and it was "Stuck". also found that all my channels were weird - fader locate etc. they were in positions where moving the fader made no changes. i logged a call and the fix was to force an update firmware.

i can't remember if tech support told me or i saw it on the forum but somehow by board had all of its settings set to digital "1" or "0" (can't remember which one).

Dont know what caused it, but i did eventually find that the firewire port on my laptop was loose and a knock of the cable kept disconnecting the board. may be completely unrelated.

do you run your desk with a computer? i know you stated that when u have no computer connected you still have the issue, but was it connected when it happened? the macs have a pretty solid firewire port.

v1.12 is still available for download.... but if you are going to try a force firmware see if u can at least save ur presets from vsl (although vsl may not open if ur board aint registering, presets stored on the mac are stored in a folder in your users directory somewhere)
16.4.2 » ipad and vsl help.....2nd request.....I'm beggin now lol » Go to message
i think there is a sticky in the tech support section of the studio live series. describes your problem and it has to do with a not so great install of the app. the recommended solution is to backup your ipad (do a full sync) then factory reset it and download the app again. seems to fix the problem once and for all.

16.4.2 » EQs on the 16.4.2 » Go to message
I got my 16.4.2 before it even had the main GEQ (which i think was the first major imporvement) and at the point the 24.4.2 wasn't even in existence. i was a little disappointed when it did come out because of the Q and full gate, but my purpose for the Q would have been for notch filtering out annoying feedback frequencies.

the 16.4.2 has Hi Q settings for the low mid and high mid and they more than surfice what i need them for. now that i have 4 eqs in the thing, i don't use the Hi Q as hard as i used. whilst it would be nice to have everything, carrying around a 16 channel desk is much easier than a 24 channel, and still to this day i do not regret the purchase.

i've looked at the yamaha a few times since purchasing it and i still look at and think "hmm that looks a bit to complicated for something that is pretty straight forward". i guess i have this opinion now because i've seen how easy a digital mixer implementation can be (the 16.4.2) and question why everyone else has to make it so hard.

as mono would say "i don't work for presonus", but i can honestly say (as will a lot of people here) its been a pleasure mixing with this desk.

at the melbourne (oz) roadshow, rick mentioned that the talkback input is what would be used for an rta mic that presonus are apparently developing. he didn't go into much more detail than that.
StudioLive General Discussion » Recording the FX without sending to a sub group and then recording the subgroup » Go to message
Is it possible? Talking about a 16.4.2

i know one way is to send the FX to a sub group (or even an AUX) and then use the VSL setup to route the sub group/aux to channels 17-32, but i dont want to take up a sub just for that.

any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

An example of the jack interface. Note itunes on the left and a device on the right.

there is a program for mac called JACK (http://jackosx.com/) that you may be able to use to reroute the itunes audio to a different channel. it may take a little setting up initially just to work out what is required but once you get it it may be pretty easy.

You basically open the Jack program and say this is my source (itunes application), send it the this audio output (ch23/24 on studiolive).

i haven't tried it on my studio live, but i used it on my firestudio26X26 a while ago.

Alvin

additional note: the jack website says they are currently having issue with lion, but they are releasing an update soon. it may work for you regardless, so it may pay to check it out just to see.
