Yeah, of course you can't tell the difference, because turning the fader up is exactly the same, mathematical-wise, as normalizing. That's why I cunningly talked about any processing.
But sure, you're right, sometimes people tend to forget that anything you do in a DAW is some sort of processing and involves calculation - except changing track colors maybe ...
Sooo... We just stop mixing ?? Like right now ehh... ???
To prevent normalizing I mean... Oh God I suck at Math...
Sure. Just get all levels right where they belong while recording, and you can leave all faders at unity while mixing.
If you are able at all, get a dedicated audio computer by an audio/computer specialist (there are a number of ones with a good name in different countries). At least that's my advice unless you really know your stuff.
Needless to say, my AB1818 VSL works just fine with my computer ...

The more I look at this, the more I think it's intended behavior. Here's a screenshot to show what I'm talking about ...

The top number seems to be locked to the Peak/RMS settings. And that's ok, but it really threw me off because I always assumed it followed the scale you have the meters set to.
Anyone can check this. Set your Master bus meter to K-14 and see if the LED's match the top number. They don't on my system unless I select Peak/RMS.
Shane
Hey Shane, the read-out is indeed fixed to show the peak level. This is still compliant to K-specs, though, so I'd consider this intended, not a bug.

Good point. The key really is: do I judge it as a good use of my time, OR alternately, does it feed my neurosis? I'll leave it to you as to which category this falls under.
i'd guess first the one, then the other. which makes this thread such a good example for the quality of this community. also an illustration of why it's better to withold judgement aboutsomeones trolliness until all parties have repeatedly slept over it.
u guys are all real cool. now, it will be interesting to watch those karma-points reappearing..
Well, I'm not too sure if I agree on all of that - but I do agree this is a high quality community!
