Hmm, I was thinking, what about a FireWire Expresscard -> Expresscard to USB adapter? Would there be conflicts with the USB adapter? Just a thought....

gadget69 wrote:I currently am using a Lenova Ideapad (listed below) and it was only about $535 with the Exress card listed. Needed optimization... but works great as an controller and recording DAW interface.

I have 2 older towers that had firewire ports and they just worked...

Mac is far from the only solution...

Although the Ipad is sure awesome for live remote...

Sounds like a good deal to me. If it works for 24ch record/control it will work for me. Now to find a blank check... lol

Dale Christenson wrote:Unfortunately, no. Neither will work. As you don't have FW on your computer.

You could get a used mac mini for just the use of the mixer. Or you could find someone with a mac or pc to upgrade your mixer. Or nix the deal your on now and get one with FW on it. Or use a desktop pc with FW on it.

So many choices.

Yeah, I might have to do that. I have an old Acer with an external card slot (not memory) but it's almost 3 years old...I'd rather not put down the money if I don't need to, but I guess I don't have a choice...

I've been looking at USB/FW hubs. Would something like the IOGear GUH420 ( http://www.iogear.com/product/GUH420/ ) or this Belkin hub? ( http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=199941 ) Would something along those lines work? I'm not having any luck finding a direct Firewire to USB adapter or anything that would work along those lines...don't really feel like selling this laptop for a computer with FW, as this computer has PLENTY of horsepower to run all the software...

rnaqvi wrote:Our mixers work just fine with PC's. The difference is that because components vary from PC to PC (unlike Macs), there is usually some additional tweaking needed on the PC side. But we literally have about 50% PC users on our devices.

After I did some more reading, I did discover that. What's the easiest way to connect the board to the PC, since I don't have a Firewire port?

Would definitely love to know! Working on buying a 2442 for live use/basic recording, and currently in school for recording/sound, so every little tip helps!

I'm currently in school for recording, but looking to further continue in live sound with my current setup, so I'm figuring on purchasing the 24-channel board. However, I just put down $1500 on a new laptop (MSI GT683) which would be more than powerful enough (i7 2670QM quad core processor, 12GB DDR3 (4GBx3), GTX560M video card, USB 3.0) to run anything. But from what I hear, SL's and VSL don't like PC's that much, so everyone recommends a Mac...not only that, IIRC the board uses Firewire, so I'd have to get a Firewire->USB adapter. Would it be worth it or would it really be better to buy a nice Mac? Suggestions appreciated, thanks!
Live Sound » What are the best powered speakers(15's) and best powered monitors(12) with the Presonus Studio 16.4 » Go to message
I use the EV LiveX series (15" tops, 18" subs, active) & found some deals & got both of my 15's for just under $1100. You could probably look for some 15" tops & 12" monitors, or find some B-stock. The 15's weight just under 45lbs, and they sound amazing. I definitely recommend them for small bands that need a light setup. (It has cut my setup time down tremendously)
