So how I do go about making good use of Pipeline? I understand it works great when routing to outboard gear and back in. Does Pipeline have any effect on the delay of plugins? Maybe someone can explain delay compensation and Pipeline in S1 for me a little better.

Thanks guys!

Pipeline takes the audio signal and routes it to the outputs you have attached to Pipeline, then when the outboard processing is done the signal is routed back in through the selected inputs in Pipeline.

Set up pipeline and select the Send / Return channels of your audio device. Next use ping to determine the delay and use the offset option to compensate for the latency caused by routing from the external gear back in.

Thanks for the info my good man! One last question. Where do I insert it? On the Input correcting in realtime as the audio is coming in or on the track insert after it is recorded?

Thanks

You could use both. Look at it as a plugin. Most common would be use it as insert.

It can also be inserted between virtual plugin's as well and rerouted by dragging it to a different spot on the insert chain.

O.k. I realize this thread is several months old at this point, but I got Studio One V2. Pro 3 weeks ago and I just sat down to mix with Pipeline last night. While I've figured out most of what it can do and how to use it properly, I'm confused on how to get a final mix out of it.

If it does all this processing in real time, as the track is playing back, then you obviously can't do a bounce to disk if you're inserting hardware processing (because it's not a real time playback). What I used to do in my former, nameless DAW (thank god I don't mix in that anymore) is send to the outboard, return into a new track and record that processed track, dumping the original. Then I could bounce to disk, or in my case, internally bus all tracks to one stereo track and record that stereo buss as the final mix (it was WAAAY better than bounce to disk in this particular DAW).

Now, in the case of Studio One, it appears as though you can't setup a stereo buss to record bussed tracks to. I figured out how to setup a stereo buss, but it didn't act like a proper track with a record function, which is what I was hoping for. So... if you're mixing out of the box, how do you re-integrate the outboard processed tracks internally so they can be properly mixed down, without having to record your mix on a separate two track machine?

Well, upon further reading just now, it appears as though studio one actually does mix in real time and this isn't an issue. Is this true? I thought when I did a bounce to disk it was like a one minute process and then it was finished. Am I missing something? How do you properly mix down when you're using pipeline? (I'm not at my studio to test this right now...)

There is an option to mixdown in real time in the dialog box. TO do it your way you would send the signal to a new track, not a bus.
