This is semi-related to Studio one since I'm trying to set up a second set of monitors to use for mix referencing.

I've got a Firestudio Mobile (FSM) as my primary interface and I have a Firestudio 26x26 (FS) slaved to that for more inputs. Currently my primary monitors are plugged into the main outs on the FSM. I'd like to have my second set simply set up to run through the FS (because I'd like to be able to control the volume!) but can't figure out how to do that (if it's possible at all).

Essentially I'm wondering if there's a way to run two monitors through a firewire slaved pair of firestudios. I can't figure out a way to do it without the MSR or using a monitor controller.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Hopefully I'm being clear.

Hey Gizzmo,

If I understand you correctly, you should be able to use any available analog output pair for the second monitors and just switch between them at the top of the master bus in Studio One, the output assignment. It should really be no different than switching between the Main and Phones outputs on the FSM, via the master bus, which would mute the main speakers and only play through the phones jack.

Right...but the other analog outs on the FS don't appear to be linked to the main volume knob on the front of the unit. In other words...there's a "Main L and R out" on the back of the FS which can be controlled with the volume knob. But plugging my second set of monitors into those outs produce no sound unless I go into Universal Control and assign WDM 1 and 2 to those outputs. But this of course won't allow me to use my primary monitors through the FSM. I can use for example outs 7 and 8, but there's no way to control those with the volume knob. I can control it by making a sub out in Studio One and just using the fader to control the output, but that's a bit awkward.

Just so we're clear my setup is:

Computer - firewire to - Firestudio Mobile - firewire to - Firestudio 26x26.

Main monitors plugged in the main L and R outs on the FSM. Looking to integrate a second set of monitors into this set up SOMEHOW. Have no idea if there's a way to do this, AND be able to control the monitors with one of the volume knobs (by setting up the routing somehow in Universal Control??)

Thoughts?

P.S. The reason I'm using the FSM as the primary is because supposedly the AD/DA is better on that unit (specs say so anyhow).
