Hey folks,

I found this competition going on over at mixoff.org:

http://mixoff.org/index.php/topic,87.0.html

It's a competition which will be judged by none other than Mike Senior who most of you would know as the editor of Sound on Sound's "Mix Rescue" articles.

Contest is over on April 4th. Mike Senior himself will personally critique your first mix and you have a chance to win his phenomenal book.

Also...on the download page to gather the tracks are a whole host of raw mixes for practice. Looks like fun!!

All those guys seem like season professionals though. Not sure I'm gonna impress anyone over there but I guess we'll see....lol

Oh, and this is totally un-mastered.

Sounds great Muzic! Good work.

On a side note, I'm starting to generally get a little burnt out with all of these rock songs on the various mix offs. Does anyone do anything other than rock with distorted guitars? Where's the Whitney Houston or Celine Dion or similar music? It seems the Internet is populated by a high majority of rockers.

I've got a few hip-hip or soul songs that could be done here as a Group Mix once the current one is "done".

I can set up another thread in a few days with some less rock-like options.

Well thanx for that but unfortunately a medical condition has taken my voice permanently, I'm afraid. I'm no longer writing or singing anymore. Just doing production work now.

Thanx though.

Actually, I want that killer kick in my mix lol!! Great mix overall sir!! For what I like to listen to, I prefer more dry and natural than most folks do. I like to feel the kick and snare punching my gut when I crank it.

I don't think they'll like my mix over at the other place but it was fun to do. The great thing I noticed about the supplied tracks is that they were recorded very well and the transients were captured nicely. I have no compression or limiting on the individual drum tracks (except for the overheads) and only a tad on the Drum bus I created.

I also created a harmony for those notes in the verses. With S1 it was a snap. Just cloned the parts I wanted and popped them up 3 cents on the transpose. Took all of 60 seconds to do.

It occurred to me that I didn't post my mix here.

I went with a little more wetness on mine than you did themuzic. I know you like your tracks dry in general.

After a few days of retrospect, I might have made the kick a little less punchy, but frankly, when I played it in my car, I loved the way it sounded. To each his own.

Here's my mix:
