Well it's too late for me. I'm not going back to the store a 3rd time. I'm going to go with the Netgear router I just got.

Phil .. are you setting it in Bridge mode to get it to work? I did that, and keep getting knocked off with SL Remote. Go back to all wireless, and it works like a champ.

Can you explain how you are getting the CAT5 port on the Airport Extreme to work connected to a laptop?

Not interested in getting out to the internet obviously.

Hey, I got the ad hoc network set up between a WinXP with a wireless N card in the PC and my iPad, but the range is lousy--I get about 50 feet away from the computer and SL Remote loses the connection. The computer is back behind a low wall, and we do have a bit of unavoidable RF interference in the venue, but still...

I can access our wi-fi router just fine, and the PC is connected to it through a wired connection (well, actually, it's connected to another router that is connected to the DSL modem/wifi router combo), so I am wondering if anybody could tell me the magic words to just connect the SL Remote through the router instead of the computer-to-computer approach?

OK so the Netgear N600 router works fine. Only complaint is, as far as I can tell, I can't do MAC filtering, but it works with WPA2 encryption and I can turn off the 2.4 Ghz band altogether so that's the important stuff.

After all of this I would HIGHLY recommend springing for a dual band router, one that does 5 Ghz. Aside from Line 6 wireless disruptions, you'll also not be competing with other 2.4 Ghz wifi networks, phones, and other 2.4 Ghz audio wireless units that may arrive on the scene in the next year or two. I've also read quite a bit about iPad's not being the best wifi devices in terms of range. I realize that won't be an issue for most of us, but... Lastly, with even the smallest hiccup knocking out the mixer connection, and the bug in the app that doesn't allow it to quickly connect back, you want to do all you can to maintain the connection.

This is good to know. I just bought four of these mics and I don't want interference problems.

I knew they operated on 2.4 and that's the main reason I bought them.

Time to buy a new wireless router.

So, I have tried for quite a while to get the Airport Express working with a CAT5 cable attached to my MacBook Pro. Unless I am totally blind, I don't see how it is possible to get a 100% bullet proof connection and still give wireless connection to the iPad. I did have it working (not good though) while I set the AirPort to Bridge mode. I have it working flawlessly by having both the Macbook & the iPad on a 5GHz only wireless scenario. I will stick with that, unless someone knows exactly how to set up the Airport Express. I would love to hear how any of you have it set up with the Cat5 Cable.

The only reason I am curious, is that if one can eliminate a wireless connection and go hardwired, that would eliminate further complications with signal, etc.

mine runs in bridge mode fine, but as I said earlier I just run both ipad and pc on wifi now, does not cause glitches in dpc at all

Airport express strictly wireless in three different venues each for 3 hour shows and each recording between 12 and 18 tracks in capture. Monitoring the network traffic I really don't see any advantage to hard wiring the laptop to the Airport.

Range has been pretty incredible and more than sufficient. I don't even notice a drop in signal to the iPad until I get a couple of brick walls between me and the router. I did manage to push up a guitar solo from the venue restroom on Friday.

Funny story- I'm two hours into a show Saturday and all of a sudden I start getting this creeping 5k feedback. I hadn' t been behind the board since set break when I restarted capture. The club I'm in has a row of couches along one of the side walls and I've been chillin' in one mixing all night.

So I hit the house EQ and pull 5k down a bit. Feedback's still creeping around. So i start running through the EQs to the downstage wedges. Still there and slowly heading into runaway. I book down to the board as it starts to really get loud and gently pull down the main. No change and people are starting to hold their ears. I've got the mains at 50% and start pulling aux sends down. Nothing! Finally I pull EVERYTHING. I literally have people storming the sound booth yellling at me like I can't hear it. 5k at about 110dB and holding steady.

The club owner comes up to me and says "do you think it's my DJ mic?" (this club has a separate house system)

"I don't know, did you just turn it on?"

"Yes"

"Well you should probably turn it off"

He did and the feedback stopped. Then some dude says "maybe if you stayed at the soundboard instead of wandering around all night that wouldn't have happened!"

So much for the sweet anonymous mixing I was enjoying... </thread hijack>

"If you would have stayed at the Soundboard...that would not have happened."
I get that all the time...
Like the time when the two cops came in and their radios were interferring with my 1 wireless microphone in the 169 Mhz range.
Like the time when all night long (over 3 hours of playing) there was no feedback what so ever and then all of a sudden out of the middle of nowhere...WHAM! A high pitched feedback!
Like the time...
It doesn't matter when, what, or how...if you did not cause the problem to start with...you are not to blame!

iPad is reliably controlling the SL 16.4.2 ... BUT... I there is a problem in adjusting the faders on channels 13 to 16. As soon as I touch a fader, the screen immediately slides back to page 1 showing channels 1 to 12. In fact I still have control of the correct fader and I can increase of decrease that channel, but the iPad is showing the wrong page. I have no visual indication of the change. And, I cannot adjust multiple faders on page 2 simiultaneously. Everything else works fine, but this bug is a show stopper for me. My SL16.4.2 is running firmware Ver 1.13 Build 159. The WIN7 computer is running latest download for VSL. The iPad app was downloaded last week. Running a dedicated WiFi router with no link to the internet and no other connections.

Curiously the "Offline Demo SL 24.4.2" does not have this problem. I can adjust channels 13 to 24 without the display sliding back to page 1.
