What would be a "killer app" would allow the musician to use an iPod/ iPhone/ iPad as a personal wireless mixer. Obviously there would be way too much latency but imagine having the StudioLive Remote generate audio streams based on the aux send(s) you want to hear and replace say, an Aviom. Walking around the venue with your Wifi iTouch with headphones listening to the various mixes would be cool.

Ok so I'm super excited about the new app.
I'm going to wait until some of you guys that already own an ipad test this thing out before I run out and buy an ipad. I can't wait to use this thing in my normal sound mixing duties but I also play in a band http://www.boochieshepherd.com

Within our band I mix our sound for each show. We typically will set the board/rack out on the floor before the show. Im the lead guitarist and i play digital multi-fx gear with no amp direct through the SL so I will actually set the thing up out on the floor before the show and mix the entire band as well as my own guitar. We then haul the mixer/rack up on the stage so I can make any adjustments necessary during the show.

With the new IPad app I hope to end this madness. I can just setup the mixer/rack on the stage to start with and walk out on the floor and mix before the show.

Things I need to buy:
1. IPad

2. Wireless router -> I wish there was something cheap I could actually mount in a rack ????

3. Wireless Guitar system -> Any recommendations, I'm having a hard time finding anything affordable without sketchy reviews. I don't particularly want to spend $300 on a wireless guitar system, but without it, I can't walk out on the floor and mix my guitar volume.

Super Excited to drop around $800 just to keep from having to haul that mixer back up on the stage !!!
No sarcasm there, I'm really excited!

I'm in the boat, I just record the sound check with Capture or Logic and then play it back while using VSL on my 2 laptops to set the mix from FOH. This is the one feature that made me buy the SL24. It's not 100% perfect due to the fact that I'm not able to hear both the stage volume and the mains, but it's more accurate then the way I used to do it ...................guessing!!

Hey Rick, does it matter what resolution the host computer has? Mine gives me the knobs instead of sliders. If the iPad gives me knobs too.... no thanks.

Yeah it does,

I think it has to be above 990 vertical to get sliders.

The resolution of the host computer won't change what you see in the iPad app, but it will change what you see on the computer itself. (of course). What you see on the iPad isn't the same as what you see on the computer. It used to matter because what you used to see on the iPad was exactly what was on your computer.

Dude, I'm totally with you on that. This would change EVERYTHING. I personally think latency could possibly be overcome. I'm willing to take a low bitrate signal in order to reduce latency. I'll listen to a 64kb/s signal as long as I can mix and listen wirelessly on my $230 iPod. Goodbye myMix and Aviom once that happens.

This concept is so good that it would even be worth launching a start-up company that only developed a monitor system like this.... hmmmmm..... I've got some investor connections....

Maestro...

Line-6 instrument wireless. Nuff said. You won't be disappointed. If you need a testimonial PM Big Joe Daddy.

I got a chance to demo their mics (getting several as soon as I get done chatting with the tax man) and they are without doubt the best I've ever heard. The instrument stuff is just as clean.

1400x1050 will show you the entire SL 16 interface. What I want to confirm is that the iPad app takes nothing graphically from the host computer. I wouldn't think it would, but am wondering how the iPad knows the host computer is running capture and how it interfaces with it.

Also curious if the host computer has to be a Mac OS ???

Bottom line is, while the have the scratch for an iPad, I have no real use for it if it's going to work with the SL and I really don't want knobs nor have to go buy a Macbook pro.

I'm not a software engineer, so I have to take it on faith that much of what happens is magic, but I can tell you the graphical interfaces are independent. The SL Remote just talks to the underlying software of VSL to tell it what to do.

It will work with mac or PC.

I'll also say, that if you've never owned an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, etc.), you will be amazed at all the uses you find for it.

Thanks - wife has an iphone, mac mini and G4 laptop. Her father is a commercial photographer and has been using macs since the 80's. I like her Iphone, but wouldn't get an IPad unless I know I can use it for the SL. I had one of the original SL's and have been mixing from stage for almost exactly 2 yrs now. I'd like to use the IPad mounted to a mic stand to make changes without having to turn my back, and to unclip and take out to the audience a few times a night during solos and tweak. Obvious best use is for sound check.

I second the Line-6 instrument wireless stuff. Their digital wireless beats everything else, sounds like a cable plugged directly in. Amazing stuff. Amazing prices too. And yes, I sell Line 6 stuff, but I'm not being biased. I also am a Shure, Sennheiser, EV, Audio Technica, and AKG dealer. I make the least amount of money selling Line 6, but I can't help it, it's too good to ignore.
