Most bars I go into can't even handle my FANE DIY cabs. I use 4 at the most. Approx. $500-$550 per cab loaded. Like I said before -- they don't require much corrective EQ if any. A very natural nice rounded bump at 63-70Hz. Also a Bridge mono 2400 amp per side will do very well.

If you are just doing the "Bar Thing" -- these are more than enough. Sometimes -- I only take two in. Labsubs will decimate the Venue! You will need VERY Pro tops to even stay up with them. Again -- this will cost a lot.

I think (I could be wrong) some K12's and some subs better than the KSub will be the easiest way to just get going with a somewhat "Plug & Play" setup.

Just another note: The Labsubs have incredibly low extension....... like TRUE 30Hz. The FANES do not -- but 40Hz is still pretty friggin low.

Don't know anything about the FANE DIY cabinets. I'll look them up. Anything has got to be better than a single powered Carvin sub...

Jerry's right...I went into a bar with 2 LABsubs, I was testing things out and doing some listening without anyone but the cook and bartender there... I played Pink Floyd "Breathe" and pots and pans started raining down off the walls and shelves in the kitchen, beer bottles were dancing across table tops... the cook was totally freaked out.

I had 6 in a big bar with great acoustics and was testing out the limits of the system and people a block away in a basement apartment thought there was an impending earthquake...Some guy comes running up and says..."Dude... the floor is moving! were all gonna end up in the basement!" funny, there was no basement...concrete floor...Funny what those things will make you you think when you hear (feel) them for the first time.

The cool thing about the Fane boxes is they are probably pretty equal to the Peavey QW subs, just in a more manageable size since they are the 1XWoofer size not the 2X woofer, AND you can actually get the Low rider18's from Peavey and have basically the same thing in a more manageable, and scalable package..

The LABs are a BITCH to build.. the Fanes.. not so much!

Does anybody build LABSUBs and sell them? Lol

Sorry man... the license agreement specifies that you can build them for yourself, but they cannot be manufactured for sale...

HOWEVER, you CAN take the plans to a cabinet maker, have them cut the pieces out, you assemble them and add the hardware and drivers...Still a bugger of a job though, but the end result is AWESOME!

Just curious; couldn't you contract someone to build the LAB subs for you? The contractor would be selling their service, not the sub.

Ok. New line of questioning. If I still want to go with the QSC tops and bottoms, which should I start with if I can only afford one pair at a time? We have some Carvin 15's for tops to get by for a while...

One more try then I'll start a new thread.

Now I'm looking into the EV ELX speakers. Could get 2 12's and 2 18's for about $3,000 with covers. Would this be enough for most small local clubs? Then I could get the QSC's later or just get another set of the EV's.

Thoughts?

Do you get a discount or something? I see them as $599 for the 12's and $799 for the 18's. 2 of each comes to $2800.

Save your money and buy it right. If you can't swing the QSCs, why waste money? The 153s are going up 7% in price BTW. The 153 is the best sounding cabinet QSC makes. The 181 is ok, not the best. The EVXP stuff is not even in the same ball park. It does not throw as far, have the same pattern control in large spaces, or play nearly as loud. Save your money. Buy it right when you can afford it. None of these cabs are designed to be used in an array, side by side. So buying more of the same wrong tool would not be any wiser.

It depends on what your definition of a "small club" is. That is now my FOH setup, and it works great for smaller events. More than 150-200 people would be pushing it though. I managed to squeeze by doing an event with a crowd anywhere between 200 and 500 through the day as a secondary stage. Do you plan on doing a lot of bigger stuff as well? I recommend the EV's if you're needing a starter system and don't have a ton of cash, but if you have the chance to save, go with the QSC gear for sure. My next rig is going to be 153/181's as I stated before.
