Yo LMike!

Great sound on the vox and lead synthparts!

One question: it sort of sounds like your Kick is slightly to the right in the mix! Maybe it has to do with the Hihat that is panned to the right. makes it a bit uneven. Or have you actually panned it slightly?
Great punch on that kick though!

I'll check when I get back in the lab. If it is off center a little (the kick, maybe the sample I supplemented with) I'll fix it and re-upload. Thanks.

Edit: Just checked, The original kick track is leaning a tiny bit right, the actual stem, not much. Odd, because I usually switch stereo kick stems like that to mono and I didn't do that here. I'll leave it though, it's not much. When I solo that track and meter it, it leans a bit right but when I level it out with pan the RMS balance leans a little left.

Good tip: Switch it to mono.

Nothing like coming in under the wire...I just did this yesterday/today.

My first group mix
I only used existing material, though i did add/repurpose a little of it. the 2nd verse background vocals were melodyned, and a couple more guitars were added via reamping existing models with ampire.

cheers,
kell

Ok...just a reminder.

I'll be on my Livestream channel tonight at 6 pm CST.

The URL is http://www.livestream.com/bluebeaglemusic

I'll be discussing some specifics of how I approach mixing the song "Come Around". I'll basically be mixing the song live, and trying to break out some of the parts and pieces so that other can see what is going on in my head when I look at a mix. Because of the length of the "process" I will likely save the "Sing With Me" track for a later date but we'll get there as well.

Even if you haven't taken a whack at one of the tracks, you can certainly show up and either listen or actively participate in the discussion. The more the merrier I always say.

I'm hoping that it will be a great discussion on the various tasks associated with mixing a song. Looking forward to it!

Well, not a huge showing, but it was a Sunday, so I don't really blame anyone. We did, however chat for a good few hours of discussion on a whole bunch of topics. It was a blast!

I'd love to do a continuation of the live broadcasting where we have some more of the folks that participated in the thread, as well as any others that want to give it a go. So take your shot at a mix, and post it in the thread (if you check the first post, you'll find everyone that's done one so far). So I'm going to go ahead and leave the thread up to anyone who wants to submit a mix of either of the songs.

I'm tentatively planning on next Saturday @ 6 PM hopefully with TheMuzic and I doing a dual broadcast to discuss any and all mix related topics.

Thanks to the folks that showed up and I look forward to the next time!

it was exactly as you described...a blast!
seriously, more people should jump in and do this. do a mix, and tune in. watch how someone else deals with stuff that you might be struggling with, discuss different approaches, etc...it is really exciting and inspiring. it was a fascinating point about how pretty much everyone has handled the drums differently so far...i think the fact that they're "problematic" really does make them fantastic examples for this purpose.

You and Johnny (mix in 20 minutes!) in tandem will be a KILLER show!

also, thank you very much for the thoughts and suggestions. i'm pumped to try some new ideas out now!
when we get to guitars, i can fill you in on the "grungification"...

Hi all!
I'm sorry i couldn't be there! I was away for the weekend. And also, it was in the middle of the night here in Sweden!

I hope you got something out of my mix! a quick comparison on mixes shows that people are applying very different techniques! And that's great!

What timezone are you in?

I'm in U.S. central time zone. Middle of the night would be a bit of a chore to attend! However, the broadcasts are recorded, so you'll be able to watch them at a later date/time.

I watched a little of it. Sunday night is not the best time for me though.

Thanks. I'll watch the recording when I get a chance.

Ha...last night's session is a bunch of me rambling on about a whole bunch of stuff. Pretty informal because there were only a few of us there.

I'd like to get some specific topics from folks ahead of time so I can address them more specifically. Don't get me wrong I love open discussion also, but to have a few ideas beforehand would be great. Think of me as a facilitator, not an instructor. A good way for folks from here to get together and share ideas.

Rock on.

I wish I could have stayed in the chat a bit longer, but I only have my son every other weekend, so I hope all who were there understand. After watching the video later, I have to admit Gizz, you know what you are doing! I was wondering if in the next broad cast you could go over all of the mixes that were posted and make known any problem areas that you may have found, as I take it you have a good set up for critical listening. Thanks for all of your effort guys.

Late to the party per usual. Here's my Come Around $.02 Seemed like everyone was going for the mellow/smooth feel so I tried to add a little edge. Meh! In retrospect seems a little bass heavy but had to hide those drums.
