Why can't I find info on this on Presonus' own website?

Can't wait to see it, though -- this is very exciting news! This could be just what we've been waiting for. Hoping they've figured out a way to control the auxes that is less fiddly than the old way using VSL and a VNC app.

I just got excited for nothing.

I forgot one key element which is I'd need a laptop running VSL... and I am a MacPro guy... no laptop as of right now.
So I'd need to spend a grand or two in order to make it work.

Still... I can use it in the studio for now.

Because audioprointernational.com did a no-no. I got the same press release, and the "embargo" date on it is January 13, 2011, the opening date of the NAMM show. Often these press releases come out a couple of months early to allow time for them to get into the print magazines.

They shouldn't have posted it on their web site until that date, but I guess the cat is now out of the bag, at least around here.

This thread might disappear, and if so, I will keep my mouth shut until NAMM.

Gibbo... not YOU, how would YOU have known...?
You did nothing wrong.

I just know how frustrating it is to have your product info leaked early.
When I worked at Bose, it was a big concern as well.
I feel PreSonus' pain when stuff like this happens.
Not the end of the world, but surely frustrating.

I'm curious how the timing works in situations like these.
Does Apple's submission process allow for a developer to set a release date...?
I know that usually developers submit apps and await Apple's approval before it goes live... but I'm wondering if a company can submit an app and specify that it gets "held" for availability after approval...

If not, that means PreSonus is awaiting its "Official" announcement before submitting the app and then need to await the typical process for it to be available for download.

Gee, My previous post came out sounding waaaay too school girl!

Apple apps submission is a mixed bag, sometimes you get approved and its online quickly, sometimes your app get lost in the ether while they code up a competing product .

You can set release date & availability. In my case please don't forget to submit for international (Australia) users Presonus!

No manufacturer really wants to announce a release date until they have the boxes in the warehouse, or in the case of software, until it's been fully tested and debugged to the point where they're confident that users can live with it. Missing a projected (not even promised target date gets the company branded anywhere from incompetent to outright liars and nobody likes that. Most companies these days prefer not to have comments like that thrown around in forums. This was a big problem in the period when I was at Mackie and Version 3 of the d8b software had been announced with a projected date nearly a year before it was released.

The press release doesn't mention a target date but it's probably a fair guess that it'll be at least ready to be shown at NAMM, at which point the cat definitely WILL be out of the bag, press release or not. It's a big thing and an important accessory for a big class of users. But PreSonus still does a lot of print advertising and has a working relationship with magazine editors. Since a magazine is generally put together about two months prior to mailing, the editors need this much lead time. It wouldn't do to see everyone talking about it right after NAMM and a magazine not announcing it until the April issue. Though indeed most mags have a "NAMM Show Issue" with products announced at the show that didn't go the advance press release route.

While no publicity is bad publicity (unless it's from customers getting radically vocal a day after the announced release date) it's a bit unusual for an announcement to go out to the whole press list and not just print publications this far in advance of the embargo (that mean "don't publish until") date, but WikiLeaks is big in the news today so they may have just been going along with the flow.

Occasionally there are "public beta" releases, but that would mean they'd have to get a version approved and release it as a free download, then the final version would have to get approved again.

As far as apps go, I saw an iPad Pro Tools remote controller at the AES show that was awaiting approval from Apple. The developer, having done other iPhone apps before, was aware of the indeterminate length of time that might take and didn't announce this one on his web site until it was ready to be ordered through the iTunes store.

Nothing of real note, the tiny screenshot looked promising (Although probably a mockup).

As an early adopter of the SL (Probably one of the first in Australia) VSL was a major attraction to me as my gigs usually involve setting up in poor locations. Hence my excitement earlier in the thread.

While I appreciate the current release, it just isn't all that it could/should be (Native ios support, midi support etc)

Looking forward to the new release
