[b][i]Looking to start a small home studio. Like the idea of a tube preamp sound but wonder if I will get that sound w/ the AudioBox USB or 22VSL interface? Money can be tight so I would like opinions on using the interface by itself or adding a TubePreV2 in line.
Thanks for your consideration,
Steph

No......However both the ABUSB and 22VSL feature excellent class A preamps.....the 22's are a bit
better tho.

[b][i] Thanks Cristofe, I've been hoping to find that the singular purchase of the interface would be fine rather than being recommended to buy the Tubepre as well. BTW, if the 22VSL is better than the USB, in the way of pre-amp, what are other differences in the 2 interfaces? Is it that the VSL has effects where the USB does not?

I read your profile..........shooo !! Man, that's a lot of moving. Hope your new wife is working out and still in tow. Seems you have no trouble meeting ppl and making friends so I will just say 'good luck' and hope you find a place to weigh anchor
Again, thanks for the help,
Steph

The AudioBox 22VSL is a newer version of the AudioBox USB. So it's better and costs a little more. The "VSL" is part of how it's better.

Thanks stephboeker , hrmn....perhaps I should update my profile. My "new" wife and I will celebrate our 10th anniversary
this year and we've been here in NY for almost five years now. Anywho, as mwright137 pointed out, the 22VSL is
indeed the better of the two units. Not only does it have the better XMAX preamps but the additional capabilities
afforded by the VSL software make it more versatile and useful in the studio and on stage.

Also an option is the discontinued FireStudio Tube, which has a tube pre in addition to 8 xmax pre's. Can't buy them new, but they are still serviced through Presonus.
