I have all the older studio live consoles... for the most part they are great little boards... my 1602 is my fav of them all actually! but I have been looking at the 32Ai and the X32... I passed on getting a 2442 Ai for an installation in favor of an older 2442... it works great for the most part and I wanted to wait and see what happens with the first round of Ai series.

I really like the SL boards and presonus too! But I am not as thrilled with the 3242 as i would hope... the FX are real basic and leave me wanting something more real and more varied and more parameters so i can make my own as i want them... they are not real happening at all... The fat channels are great but at outdoor events the board is next to impossible to read the LED or the tiny display... Not happening!... it's what i do not like in my other SL boards... no display in sun light... they are gone! in a dark inside gig... it is also hard to see the writing on the fat channel... wish it was back lit or something... No digital snake... Yet? c'mon! No moving faders or DAW control... I do love the clean sound and ease of use! The Smaart features are OK but I have the real Smaart7 which is way beyond what comes in this box so I use that instead. Mute groups! yea! thats useful!!... But only 4 sub groups??? No VCA? no USB stick to save your settings and go from board to board or different set ups??? I am looking for real good reasons to consider this... tell me something cool!

I do live sound and recording as well as studio recording and sound design. We have an X32 at the production company I work with... I kinda like it a lot! it's fast and easy but also has some in depth features, routing, damn good FX and it sounds great! I can do my set up and save it to a USB stick... BAM! Digital snake! AES I/O !!! Options for ADAT Dante MADI and more! motorized faders! LED scribble strips! TFT display! MIDAS mic pres and you can save the settings!!! you can see all the displays day or night inside or outside... Ipod dock! DAW control! 6 band PEQ on the mains! Inserts that are rout able... the digital snakes add 16x8 I/O! iPad app is a no brainer to set up and get going... no problems or hassles! I have not messed with the PC app yet.

all in all I am leaning towards the X32... I am picking one up today to play around with before I buy it.

they are also a bit less $$ right now then the 3242Ai...

don't get me wrong now... I am a Presonus fan boy, love all my boards and Studio One is awesome... Just looking for a real good reason to go with the 3242AI over the X32 for a bigger board to have for FOH or monitor board

I can get an X32 with ATA case for about what i can get a 2442 Ai with no case...

tell me what i would be missing?

You pretty much listed the 'whats missing' yourself from your perspective and it seems like you've more or less made up your mind.

Don't get me wrong. The studiolive is a great mixer and easy to use but it has become limited for my extended workflow nowdays. But I'd still happily mix on one any day... I like to use the Dave Rat live mixing technique and this setup is not possible with the studiolive.

With the addition of the presonus dante enabled speakers I can now go digitaly from a ls9, a&h, x32, etc... Using dante I can now run one or more dante enabled mixers, including the studiolives, in the dante eco-system. I love being able to ditch firewire/usb for recording!

The new 64-channel cascading it cool, but I'd not like to do fader locate on all of those faders, trimming the headamps and four subgroups are way too limited for this size of mixer...

As for smaart I run the studio six app on my iphone/ipad and this is quite sufficient for my modest needs.

In the end it comes down to workflow and needs and the studiolive is more than capable. The x32 is very nice as well and the range of new mixers of affordable and capable digital mixers from different manufacturers seems to grow every day. It isn't easy to pick the cherry any longer - The buff├ęt is out there and its growing!

Im selling a Midas F32 to a friend and going digital in that size. He will let me use it still after he buys it if i really need it But I'm Looking at the 3242, X32 and Espression 3.
love the Midas but i need to update to be competitive and I still have a Midas 240 in the smaller analog size. \
I plan on getting a MIDAS M50 system when it becomes available... probably next year for that baby!

I have access to a SoundCraft Expression on a regular basis if I need it... so The X32 looks like the best choice of them all since i already have the a few Studio Live consoles for small format digital boards I can do gigs with.

the X32 and a couple of S16 stage boxes makes for a sweet compact system.. no big bulky snake to deal with.

I did the expression-1 for the first time two weeks ago and I felt it wasn't my cup of tea. I also noticed that linked faders were sluggish. The ipad app is quite limited if you are used to the x32 app. I don't know if they offer an iphone app for personal monitors...

The expansion possabilities on the expression is quite good

Having access to all of those mixers you've listed I'd say you'll have a great selection of mixers to choose from if you also buy the x32 as you already have the studiolives.

I know of the korg m50 but I don't know of any midas m50. Do you mean the midas m32 that is about to be delivered? The x32 and m32 is said to be compatible with each other.

Edit: I can't zpell today
