2 questions:
1-I recently upgraded my Studio Live 24.4.2 to the Studio Live 24AI. On the old desk, I connectred my IPad via my laptop (connected via Firewire) by ceating and adhoc on my laptop and the IPad would connect that way, no problems. Now I tried with the AI desk the same way and it doesn't see it. I tried connecting to the WiFi dongle, but couldn't get that to work either. I would think I'd still be able to connect to the laptop in the same way?
2-USing the AI software with the new desk, I notice wuite a bit of latency in the EQ section through the laptop. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Todd

I never used the old SL line, but I believe on those old SL's you connected like you said, the SL required a computer to connect an ipad. But the new AI does not need a computer to connect an ipad. The AI connects to a router (either hardwired or via the dongle) and you connect your ipad via the router, you don't need an intermediate computer. You can also connect your laptop to the AI with either ethernet or firewire, but you cannot connect your ipad to the AI via the laptop (it doesn't support adhoc).

As for 2, what do you consider "quite a bit"? I notice maybe less than a second of delay for updates on the computer. I think this is determined by the Safe Mode setting when you start VSL. I think the lower the safe mode, the longer the latency.

Not an expert, I could be wrong, but these are my thoughts.

While I am not saying it can't be done, I have never favored or used ad hoc networks on my Gen 1 24.4.2, and the dongle will connect you via wi-fi to the router, eliminating the need for a computer. So a router is the way to go here. They're cheap, and the connection is faster, stronger, and much more reliable. You probably already have one from your first setup!

I already connect my computer, because I like having access to the EQ, and I use it for playbacka s well. If the only way to connect to the AI with my IPAD is thorugh a router, then that's a whole nothe thing I have to set up.
What I'm not understanding about the dongle is that you still need a router correct? Again, as far as I'm concerned it's just as easy to connect the compouter as it would be a router. So there no way to connect the Ipad to the computer via an Adhoc? That doesn't make any sense....
The altency I'm experiencing is in when I make a cut on the graph it takes a good scond for it to take effect...
Also, I'm not a fan of mixing on the IPad, nothing can replace the real fader feel and the ability to access solos, or vocal harmonies on a real surface, however the ability to use the Ipad in situations where you are forced to set up behind the PA or in a less than Ideal mix position, really comes in handy.

I just went in and created an ad hoc network on my Macbook Pro, and tried to connect that way. This is the first time I have tried on an Ai board and I got the same result as you. As you did, I did use this before on my 1st generation StudioLive. I much preferred the router and never looked back. I never had a need to test an ad hoc network on the new machine.

I won't say it can't be done, but I couldn't make it fly even connecting the SL to the Macbook via ethernet. From what I saw, it looked to be a router-only proposition. Perhaps that was the tradeoff for not having a computer requirement. I hope we might get an ad hoc guru to comment on the Ai series possibilities.

I did check Universal Control on my MBP, and didn't experience any noticeable latency. I will continue to play with it and see if I can make it get funky. I connect mine via fire wire, and it is pretty stable.
