Can anyone report on improved reliability for the AI's vs. the Original StudioLives?

Yesterday I had the SL16.4 set up in the living room doing some EQ presets using a previously recorded CAPTURE show. I had to run an errand and just let it sit; Capture was put in "pause". When I came back I restarted Capture, there was no sound to the board - click on inputs they were all dead. I rebooted the board and they all came back. Hmmm I said.

Later that night and on Four separate occasions I again lost all input, mid-show, and always with a big pop through both the mains & monitors. A reboot of the SL solved the problem but after the second failure I pulled the computer firewire into the SL in case it was the computer causing the issue - but twice again the same failure happened, same big pop everywhere, same reboot to solve - but clearly unacceptable.

Does any one else have history like this? Does the AI address this problem?

I have just upgraded from a 16.4.2 to a 16.4.2 AI. My dealer checked his records and said he had not had any of the twenty or so he had shipped returned under warranty so I went ahead with the trade in. Hopefully things have improved. I had three major issues with my 16.4.2 and so I'm hoping the AI model will be more resilient.

BTW, I thought the 16.4.2 was superb apart from its reliability. Hoping the AI will hit both targets!

You know, the loss of sound could have been due to a computer "sleep" option...check those and see if there is an issue there...

The SL series consoles had no more than an industry standard failure rate... but, it being the most popular console sold at the time the failures are understandable in that respect. The thing is, if it's working your not going to hear anything about it, but with more than 1/2 million consoles out there.. your going to hear about it when one fails.

I have a SL and an Ai... the SL is a veteran of hundreds and hundreds of shows without a single show stopping failure...I will say that I believe many of the issuers are caused by insufficient, or corrupt power being used with the console. If there is any question about the power, digital consoles should be plugged into a sine wave power conditioner...

Thanks … I'll look into the UPS.

It's clearly not a "computer sleep" issue … 1) I'm sure its set up correctly, and 2) it happened when the 'puter was not even connected.

Thanks

JD.
