In Studio One it is possible to save plugin presets as:

.fxp (and .fxb)
.preset
other formats (e.g. Battery 4 nbkt or whatever)

It is in the users' interest to export to the most portable possible format, which in this case is FXP. Here is where perhaps someone can step in and set the record straight if I am wrong.

Why did Presonus even bother creating the .PRESET format when Studio One they also built in full .FXP support anyway? As far as I can both formats achieve the exact same thing, except that .PRESET only works with Studio One. Also, .PRESET files are about 60 times the size of an FXP file of the same patch.

It troubles me that most of us are almost definitely saving our patches in the .PRESET format, not because it is better but because Studio One makes this format more accessible i.e. it takes fewer clicks:

In the above menu, clicking Store preset... pops up the small dialog shown below, then all you need to do is type a name for your preset and hit enter; Studio One ensures that the preset is saved in the right place so that you can access it conveniently through the browser:

Patches saved as FXP can be made to appear in the Studio One browser, but users need to manually export to the right folder in the S1 data directory, which is a pain, instead of S1 doing it automatically for us, as is the case with PRESET files.

So what I am requesting here is the addition of an equally convenient function to store presets as FXP, and the ability to assign it to a keyboard shortcut. This way users will be able to choose whichever format they deem more appropriate. The easiest way to do this would be as follows:

The preset management menu can be simplified by removing the VST2 export options. The user can choose the export format in the same way it's done when importing preset files, shown below:

The new Store Preset dialog would look like this (note the additional Store as FXP option):

Alternatively, this option could be placed somewhere in Options > Locations instead, since it's a set-and-forget kind of setting. Either way, Studio One should remember the user preference so the checkbox doesn't need to be checked/unchedked each time the user saves a patch.
