We've bought a new mac pro - with the latest version of osx - maverick
We are using logic pro x as recording tool and presonus studio live 24.4.2 as sound interface.

Now - when we start to record we get these irritating crackles in the sound. I tried to downgrade the version of universal controller - but that just made it worse.

We are recording to an external hard drive - but I can't see why that should cause the problem...

If I change some of the setting in the universal controller (UC) like sample rate or safe mode, the problem disappears for a little while - but it return after some time...

Can anybody help us?

What is the speed of the external drive? On the surface it sounds like a buffer issue (too small), but when you mention is goes away for a little while then returns when you change to safe mode, it may be the drive. Some people have success with 5400 rpm drives, but it is recommended to use a minimum of 7200 rpm.

Can you try to record a song to the internal drive, and see if it goes away entirely?

Hi, and thank you for your post! It solved our problem

We have 4 internal disks in our mac pro and we've started using one of them for storage of musicfiles - and it works !

It was a bit confusing - since the mac was such a fast one - and we bought a new one to be able to use lots of plugins and stuff like that .

Anyway - thanks again!

Kristian
