I'm considering purchasing a 24.4.2 ai, and my main concern is that I will be tracking in the same room as the Studiolive with its constantly running cooling fans. Are any of you owners using this in a similar studio environment and hearing or recording the fan noise coming from the studiolive? I don't want to have to gate or filter any mics to achieve a great recording. Thanks.

I was actually just wondering the same thing.

I am considering buying the 24.2.2AI and was on here reading the now LOCKED thread on the fan issue.

The OP stated that the issue got resolved and he now has the mixer integrated in his studio and everything is great.
My problem is he never said HOW the issue was resolved. Or if the fans are quiet now.

Anyone have any info on this? I will be tracking in the same room also, same as OP of this thread. Dont want to spend 3000 and have. Would rather spend the 3000 on a different mixer, hell even a 16.4 if they have quieter fans.

Oh and how does everyone like it overall? Ive read everything I could on it, and of course it sounds like the greatest board ever. Just looking for some overall personal opinions from those that have been using it for a while.

Maybe try and PM the OP from the locked thread?

I have upgraded to the 16.4.2 AI and yes, the fan noise is an issue here too as we have a one room setup.

I have PM'd the OP to confirm but it looks like he replaced all FOUR fans with quiet ones which he slowed down using a resister cable (as you might in a bespoke PC build). This would invalidate his warranty but seems to be a price he is prepared to pay. I can sympathise!

I'll also be interested to know how this was resolved as I need to sort it out too.

I actually PM'd the OP and got this response....

Hi Sam,

I was contacted by someone at Presonus who had seen my post who let me know that they had fixed one of the issues (the Post EQ/Dyn button not functioning on any channels). I responded and began a discussion about the fans and whether or not the slower quieter fans that I had installed would be enough to cool the electronics. I sent them the specs on the fans that I purchased and they seem to think that it would be fine in my particular environment. (I live on the Northern California coast which has a pretty cool climate).

So, I am using the mixer and it's working.

BUT it's important to know that I voided my warranty by installing these fans. And I got no particular assurance from Presonus that they would honor a warranty if there were something else wrong with the mixer.

If you are considering this mixer, I would certainly recommend trying to contact someone at Presonus and having the discussion with them about your use of the mixer. It DOES sound much better than the old one.

Hope this helps!

Best,
Timbo
