The size of the iPAD won't really affect performance. The wireless reception in every model is the same (at least to my knowledge).
Probably the biggest difference in performance will be in how strong your wireless signal is. The better your wireless card in your computer, the better the connection will be.

It sure looks better than Yamaha´s Stage Mix. I don´t have a Studiolive, so remote SL is useless to me, but I downloaded it anyway

Hey Chip,
That's an SKB AV8. http://www.zzounds.com/item--SKBAV8. Is has some velcro material on it so I put a bit of velcro on the bottom of my MacBook. That puppy's not goin' anywhere. Folds down low for transport but I can say it's low enough for all cases. The case I'm running is a 12U version. Here's the link: http://audiopile.net/products/Cases/CU_series_roadracks/CUDJ-P-22/CRUDJ-P-22_series_cutsheet.shtml It's a great case. Obviously the laptop shelf wouldn't work with the SL24 because the 24 is too wide. The mounting brackets are setup for a standard 19" rack.
Cheers,
BJD

Of course that's the one you pointed me to Mono. I don't spend a nickel of my hard earned cash without getting your blessing first! No kidding, that was a good call Johnny.

16gig is perfect, the app is only 4mb so that leaves you with 99.99% empty space

I'm a big fan of the thought process that goes like this: "If you're gonna be a bear, you might as well be a grizzly!" In other words, I'd encourage considering the 64GB with all the bells and whistles (cellular data plan).

I've only had my iPad a little over a month, and I'm tellin' you, I'm in. I use it for so many, many different things and it does so many things well. I've got about half of the 64GB used already. It all boils down to "different strokes for different folks". That's what makes the iPad so appealing. You set it up the way YOU like it. So 16GB, 64GB or anything in between, you'll be stoked! Go get 'em!

I play in a band with Rick at PreSonus and we've been testing the app for a couple of weeks now. One of the funny things is that our sound man is like a rock star now walking around with the iPad! Everyone wants to know what he is doing and they are amazed by it. We also have an iPad e on stage so if he's talking with someone and we need to tweak our aux mix, we don't need to flag him down... it's great.

Right on Brad,
That settles it. I'm jumpin' ship. I'm gonna sell all my guitars and just stroll around at the gigs with my iPad. After all, it's all about the chicks!

If I were you I'd wait 2 months to buy an iPad. New version will be out with a bunch of improvements. I know it's hard to wait, I'm in the same boat as you.

Hey Boys,
I hope I don't ruffle any feathers for hijacking this thread, but all this talk about the iPad prompted me to share this little gadget with you. It's called the iKlip. Pretty handy. You can get 'em all over the web. Here's a quick little preview.

There also the Primacoustic Showpad. I researched both and bought the Showpad. Although it's $10 more and I can't attest to the durability, the Showpad seems like a much better design. It has a ball joint that allows the Ipad to be oriented vertically or horizontally fairly easily (loosen the collar turn the holder 90 degrees and tighten the collar). The iKlip requires a screwdriver and removal of the iPad to adjust the orientation. Another advantage is the Showpad has 2 spring loaded clips that hold the Ipad in place, along with 2 cradle tabs the Ipad slides into. From what I understand the Iklip is open on one end so you have to be careful when reorienting to vertical that you have the right side up.

I downloaded and tested the StudioLive Remote app yesterday. I have two StudioLive 16.4.2 consoles daisy chained for 32 channels. I was very disappointed to discover that the Remote app does NOT recognize both consoles simultaneously - i.e. you can only connect to one at a time. This means that you cannot "see" all of the faders at once, or adjust aux sends, FX, etc. for the channels on the other console without disconnecting from one and connecting to the other.

I hope that a future update can add the ability to access all 32 channels plus the aux sends for those channels.

Otherwise, the app looks great, is responsive, and well-built. It just happens to be almost useless for me without access to all channels on both boards.

I'm not happy with the "ad hoc" network connection (PC to iPad). Can anyone help me with setting up a wireless router to connect to the iPad? I have no clue how to set this up as it's not what you normally use the router for. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's actually not that difficult. Basically just connect your computer and your iPad to the router as you normally would, connect the computer to the mixer, run VSL on the computer and run SL Remote on the iPad. They should find each other automatically and just work.

Will try to get a video showing all the details out soon.

Rodney

Hi tcoleman2, thanks for sharing! This is just the information I was looking for; I'm considering either adding a 2nd SL16 to my rig or replacing my current SL16 with a 24. I agree that it would be awesome for remote to recognize daisy-chained boards and see them as one large board, as one of the big selling points of the SL series is expandability!

I'm still on the fence though; having 2 SL16s would mean I could send out two rigs on the same night for smaller shows and still give me the extra channels for larger shows. I would also have a backup console at smaller shows.

I really like the idea of using SL remote instead of VNC. Just for my info, what's the process of logging out of one console with SL Remote and logging into the other console when they're daisy-chained? Is it just a click or two? Obviously it's not ideal regardless, but I could use all the info I can get before making this decision! Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences so far, and thanks for the videos, Big Joe Daddy!
