Oh man, I didn't realize we moved onto another song. Sorry man. This mix sounds really good. My only comment would be it needs more low end. A bit thin sounding on my system.

Nice work though on the overall mix.

Are you freak'n kidding me themuzic????

I'm 8:45 in and I already learned to:

1. Clean up the tracks with select tool ( I use to use the slice tool)
2. Add a limiter to the Master Fader
3. Use Buss'ing.....and in correlation with the limited to determine a perfect level for drums

**In the melodie of the great Kansas song**

Car-ry on themuzic sooooooon
These are days that I must learn
Keep on making killer viiiiiiiiids

This is my first time trying to import from the internet into S1 and I'm missing something, probably terribly simple.

First of all I can't get the original audio files open. I downloaded the original .rar file and don't know what to do with it. Says there is no default application to open Outpost.rar. Is this some kind of zipped file? I'm on a mac if it matters.

Secondly, I've also donloaded the 3 other .song files to see what others have done to achieve their mixes, and I cant open them either. When I try to open them in S1 it says files are missing or cant be located.

What am I missing?
Thanks,
Billy

Hey Autonomos,

Here's the deal. The original file is a .rar file which is similar to a zip file but a little more efficiently compressed. On the Mac you can do a search on Google for "rar expander mac" and it'll come up with this: http://www.unrarx.com/

It works in much the same way as a zip file. Rar is good because with files this large it makes them a bit smaller for downloading purposes. Once you decompress the files put them in a folder somewhere (maybe in a new song folder in your Studio One folder).

Then when you download another person's song file and open it, Studio One will tell you that it can't find the files, just hit the browse button and direct it to the folder where you put the original wav files. That should about do it!

Hope that clears things up.

Thanks Giz.

Got the .rar file squared away. I opened it into a folder on the desktop, then dragged all of the .wavs into a new song in S1. I don't know if it's the most efficient way, but it worked.

I'm still having trouble with the .song files though. They're on the desktop as well. Do I need to drag them into the S1 song folder maybe?

Wow, cool. Nice mix. More compressed than any of the other mixes but I kinda like it.

Upon further listening, is this even mixed in Studio One? If you used the same files we did, they mixed much darker than any of the mixes posted so far. Is this mixed in Sonar by chance?

Yes, I mixed in Sonar, but Sonar does not make the mix is darker.

Now, you do remember I said I liked the mix, right?

To my ears Sonar is a bit Darker. That's why I felt that it wasn't mixed in Studio One. Maybe I should phrase it

"Sonar mixes darker than Studio One, to my ears"

As with anything, it all comes down to what you like to listen to. DAWs that I have used, I rate them for my purposes like this:

Studio One = Brighter (clean) with a strong and wide mid\bottom end
Cubase = Thinner but strong on the mids with hotter mixdowns
Sonar = Darker but with clean dynamics on the mids and lows
Acid Pro = Weak on dynamics but mixes sub lows really well

That's all I've used over the years and my conclusions are based on my point of reference (that being my ears).

It's all a matter of taste. I hate mashed potatoes but I love french fries. Go figure.
