Hi There,
I purchased my PreSonus 32Ai almost 6 months ago and so far have used it for 2 gigs. I noticed that I have problem with using 31 band eq. Mains and auxes same problem. I get a very low end frequency that is very bad. If I connect my computer and use built-in smart RTA you will see that the 20 hz frequency shoots up very high. No matter if you lower the 20Hz fader down to -15 still shoots up high.
The only way i can get read of it is not to use my 31 bands eqs. I am very disappointed. So I called in and I was told by the tech support guys you need to reset and download the firmware. I did it 3 times and still have the same problem. So I called in yesterday 3/10/2014 as soon as I explain the problem to the tech support, I was told that they know about this problem. They called as a rumble sound and they are working on it and they have no fix for it and just not to use 31 band eqs. He did not even offer to exchange my mixer. I like to know if anyone has the similar problem and if and fix for it. I have contacted the store that I purchased and I asked if I can replace it since it is a factory defect.
How would I know if I exchange it and I would have the same problem? Hope guys in PreSonus not keeping this problem under the rug.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,

Hello Teymour,

This has come up and it's a known problem. Presonus is aware of it and they are working for a solution. Please don't bother asking when it will be done. They are famous for making no time commitment. A fix will be released when they are done with it and there will be no time estimates or target dates. In the meantime, you will have to use the PEQ.

Regards,

I have exactly the same problem with my SL32ai....and more. Firstly, while setting the console up before the first show last weekend I noticed that the Expanders on several channels in UC all seem to be "jittering" in sync...very odd. Never the less I persisted. It seems that in setting up the console with various factory pre-sets that lots of Expansion in applied ...on almost everything, including Auxes ( i didn't add it to Auxes so how did it get there? )

The same Graphic EQ issue soon became evident, Smaart shows 20 hertz at Unity all the time..even when the frequency level is taken right down its still there!!!

There is also the low noise rumble coming through to FOH all the time, nothing I did seemed to alter or get rid of it it...very obtrusive (and very annoying Presonus!!). I've done two gigs with the console now and on both occasions weird things have happened that don't happen on my mk1 SL24..like the board resting itself to default scene again. Then on Saturday night Channel 1 kick drum was getting a little loud and when I reduced level on the fader absolutely nothing happened, meter levels stayed the same, no alteration to levels showing up on either iPad or Macbook Pro.,,no output reduction...nothing!! Took the fader level right down and sill had kick drum in FOH...how so? I ended up back at the console and the only way to get it under control was to knock the input gain down ( i was mixing FOH on iPad )

I've had problems with my SL24 console in the past, software issues and component ( design ) issues, and switching off mid show ( apparently due to inconsistent mains power), all of which cost a lot of time and money to fix, not to mention embarrassment and loss of business. Despite all that I was sure Presonus would have ironed out any obvious issues with the SL32ai before releasing it, that said I bought one from a local dealer this time around ( just in case ) ...its starting to look like i made a good decision.

Instead of buying one of the other brands I stuck with Presonus because I really like how it sounds, the way it is laid out and the work flow, I hung back on buying a bigger console for a year or more after seeing the SL32ai at NAMM. Now I have to confess that my heart is in my boots ....again. Why can't we just have something that works without hearing about "known issues" after purchasing one? Not good enough guys!! I realise that lots of effort goes in, and I know much has been done to improve the new ai range particularly on the recording and software side, but surely not as a trade- off from this being first and foremost a live console?

The SL32ai I've had for two gigs now isn't fit for purpose in my opinion and my confidence is now at a very low ebb. I shall be returning it to the dealer today.....it gives me no pleasure to say this. I just hope they can find me one that works properly in time for two very important high profile gigs this coming weekend.

I turned on the Gate on the Main outs to get rid of the Low end rumble. (when all is quiet) I assume the rumble is there when the band is playing, but not noticeable. Seems to be a work around, but not a true fix. Or just run the EQ flat. I do both as needed. Hopefully they can find some solutions soon.

check all the Expanders.....in my case they were illuminated on all channels, main outs, sub groups, Aux's and FX busses. They aren't supposed to be active without the gate button also being illuminated too but I found that they were definitely active on the Aux's going to stage monitors.

The Expanders are all illuminated when the desk is zero's out so I canceled them all, zero'd out the desk, and saved the scene as Scene 2 to use for my default. That seemed to get rid of the low noise rumble so i suspect this is an Expander software bug.

I also noticed that all the channel Expenders "jittered" in unison when I had UC showing on the Mac.....not a good sign and again suggesting its a software bug. (the desk meters weren't doing it ...only UC ) Matters seem to get worse when library sounds were copied to channels for a quick band set up. Altering and then saving to another scene seems to have perpetuated the problem so Ive had to delete some show set up scenes and start over.

I noticed this too. Even for channels that are muted and have nothing plugged in to them they still jitter in UC but not on the desk.

I thought if the Gate button was turned off that the expander was disabled, even if the EXP button was lit. I'll have to check this out. If the expander is still active anyway, that would explain a few things.

Just updated, Low end definitely fixed! High End still seems wacky, need to video it and send in a ticket for it. High end seems to "cut" middle frequencies away. Hard to describe.
