I think it would be great if there were a Mastering forum here since in StudioOnePro we have the Project page and we are in fact Mastering there. Im sure Im not alone with the myriad of questions

That's a great idea.... I'm only using Artist so I don't have the Project Page - but I would still love to see a forum for that.

Until then, do you have any specific questions on mastering. Just start a new thread for that topic.

Happy New Year as well!
I agree, with all. Until something like that comes along, as Bbd says, post a thread here. I know I would get something out of it. I have learned a good deal about mastering, but still have a lot to learn.

I've seen some pretty good feedback from Presonus users and professionals as well, so someone will chime in if they have anything to add. One good thing about the General Discussion forum is visibility.

Until then, go for it if there's a question.

On a final note, I don't know how busy a strictly Mastering forum would be. Then again, it doesn't have to be very busy, just be informative and be an available resource, right? Sounds good.

Put all the songs on your album in a particular order, and try different orders, then add the spit and polish to the overall sound with your mastering plugs or gear and get everything so that all the songs sound like they belong together and at the volume levels they are at. And of course make them loud enough so that people can listen to them on their crappy earbuds, boom boxes and stuff without having it turned up to max volume so that the next songs by someone else blast out and blow up their stuff.

Mastered for iTunes = 24 bit 320 kbps mp3.

So everyone worried about recording at 88.2 kHz; 96 kHz; 192 kHz these days is wasting money and disk space. That's the audiophile market that's about .0001% and they probably can't tell the difference in a double blind test anyway. Sorry that's my opinion on the subject. 24 bit 44.1 kHz is good enough until the Chinese start buying my music and demanding better.

mmm...that's just the current situation, and in few years? what about if iTunes will make us sell higher quality music? are you sure your old songs at 44.1 kHz will be good enough? storage is so cheap today that the "waste of space" argument is not convincing to me. If you use VSTi (which are usually sampled at 44.1 kHz) then I agree that there is no reason to go beyond 44.1 kHz, but if you record real instruments I can confirm that you will hear a difference between 44.1 kHz and 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz. In the studio we record everything at 96 kHz and we suggest the downsampling to 44.1 kHz after the mastering. Modern dithering allows lossless quality conversion. my two cents.

They'll make us sell what ever is as good as the equipment that people play the music on. Right now the average consumer system is earbuds, mediocre home systems, and mediocre car systems. It's not going to matter. That's the mass market.

Audio quality has gone down in the past 20 years if you ask me, not up.

And I can see in the picture who is the master of Talmen's domain.
