Just needed to vent a bit here. True, I'm not one of the hardcore posters around here but have tried over the years to help others when something comes up that I may actually know something about but I've been visiting this forum many times a day for a few years now. Having said that I just needed to say how disappointed I have become with the atmosphere that has been creeping in here. What happened? This place used to be sooo full of help and community well being.... But that doesn't seem to be the case any more.. Where did so many of the regulars go?

I sincerely miss the amazing posts and education you could find from people like Johnny (themuzic) and Motoko!

I think I've seen more bitching and arguing here in the last couple of months than I have seen in the previous years combined. Sad.

It's because Presonus didn't put out anything interesting regarding S1 for a year or so...and all questions have been answered. So, until something new comes up, I don't think this forum will be ''live'' as it used to be.

Possibly, but I can say without a doubt once the presence of PreSonus staff around here disappeared things took a turn for the worse, understandably. I remember when Johnny was posting a series of videos in regards to a song he was tracking- I was glued to it because I learned so much by seeing his workflow. He was one of the most helpful people you could ever meet on here, and a great person to boot! Somewhere along the line it seemed that people started attacking him for reasons I don't understand- he started losing his cool in threads which didn't seem to be part of his nature at all. I know he had health problems, but continued to be active here and help like no other person I've seen.

Maybe he got tired of the personal attacks and left, but I can say this place is a shell of what it used to be.

And I also subscribe to his YouTube channel here:

Nothing too new, but I think he's trying some new things. Saw a live feed test at one point.

Also, it's almost Christmas - people are busy...

The last line of your post is probably a contributing factor. He didn't leave (I believe he is a forum mod), but he has certainly taken some abuse. I remember the days you speak of, and it certainly was a better forum back then. I think what happened was, S1 was under the radar a bit in the beginning stages. With more success, it attracts all sorts of society. Also brings in trolls looking to do their work also. It took the coffee house nature of the forum, and turned it into the rest of the world.

It's unfortunate.

can't speak for the past here in the forums since i am still within my first year here but i will say it is not JUST the forum... it is the world that is sad. ill will is increasing everywhere and self centered BS will destroy most anything good. the last few months has had it's share of the "Me, Me, Me's" from some of the newer members. and when one only thinks of themselves... who wants to help with that?

i say keep a stiff upper lip and drudge on. there is still a lot of good people here and i don't think they are going anywhere.

Here's an 'outsiders' take on it. I haven't seen any bad threads since I've been here, which is only been a couple of months. And if there have been, I don't really remember or latch on to that stuff, unless it's very personal. Like threats, and that kind of thing. I've seen some heated debates, but isn't that what the forums are partially for?

If the regulars are not posting or responding to people that have legitimate problems that only they can help with because they don't like the tone of a few threads, well, then in my opinion they aren't as great of people as you are trying to make them out to be. That seems really selfish and self centered to me.

But I do have to say when you get some new people that come along here it seems like they aren't very welcomed. I've seen several posts slamming new people on this forum and saying how great it was before they came along, and it makes me personally feel unwelcome so I've backed way off on posting here.

Then there's this forum software. It's not very easy to use and nobody seems interested in making it easier. Try responding on an iPhone or Android using these codes and stuff. It's just not possible.

And speaking of the iPhone/Android thing, desktop PC's are dying and I think people are turning in to viewers and not posting because of that. Take a look at some of the threads, you'll see 2 responses and over 200 views. It's because it's just too much of a pain in the ass to type on these handheld touchscreen pieces of junk that they used an 8 year old Asian worker's hand to model them after. I mean, seriously ... I'm a 6'3" American that takes a size 15 ring. How in blazes am I supposed to type out a text, let alone a forum post on these damn things? LOL! Seriously man.

Also ... we're still in the worst recession the world has ever seen, despite what you read in the news. Yeah, unemployment is dropping, and people are finding jobs, but it's fuzzy math for two reasons. One, the people that were on unemployment that don't qualify anymore aren't counted. Two, the families that were paying taxes on 300K homes that lost their job have lost that home and are now working for $8 an hour down from $30, and someone else bought that home for 125K and is paying a fraction of the taxes. The Fed's are losing, local gov. is losing, people are losing. Everyone is losing everything right now. Everything is in decline and life kind of sucks right now for most people and most are busy just trying to keep off the street despite what the media tells you with their skewed numbers and some people just don't have time for forums anymore or can't even afford internet access.

I've seen a major decline in all the forums I read over the last several years. I think part of it is due the economy and the 'forum' generation is going away. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see this forum, Sonar, KVR, and others gone in 5 to 10 years.

This is the only forum I participate in, and not very often because to be honest, I don't really feel welcome because of threads like this. When you throw out a generic statement about new people ruining the forum it leaves you to wonder if you said or did something that offended someone and wonder if you aren't seen as part of the problem and then you just don't feel like posting anymore.

And as for the moderators not participating ... these guys are in the same boat as everyone else trying to keep their jobs. The last place I'm going to be hanging out when I got the boss looking at my numbers is the forum ...

At any rate, I don't think you can blame this and many other forums decline on the 'atmosphere'. I think there's a lot more going on than what meets the eye. I also think that it's not as great a place as you remember, and it's not as bad a place as you make it out to be now.

Thanks,

Shane

well as for PC's dying... not as long as there are iPhones and Androids how does ya think them things get programmed. but you are right Bub... with all the hand held stuff and it's popularity... there is a lot more viewing than posting i think.

?

I thought other than that sonar garbage things were pretty good here, in fact, I thought this was the best forum of the 5 I frequent?

Anyways, I find the place very helpful.

N/M, I see at least one reason why the OP is upset.

I don't know what to say, I still think this is a friendly/helpful place.

Unlike myself, the great Motoko and Music dudes have full time jobs and probably not a lot of free time for forum stuff. Otoh, we semi retired guys have lots of free time.

To the other point, I think what happens (maybe, dunno) is after 2-3 years of answering the same questions, some of which are already on the forum to be searched and/or in the manual, some people simply get tired of it, answering the same questions. So maybe rather than implying "RTM" twice a day they just don't answer at all.

In any case, for every old member who takes a break from helping there are always a couple of new members doing the same thing.

Something else I see a lot lately are unique issues that individuals are having that are very specific or obviously hardware that PreSonus has to ell with. I don't post in a thread if I have nothing to contribute. Because many of the recent issues are so specific and few users here know that specific function to offer any help, it seems no one is helping. If people feel that a response like "sorry you are having this issue but I am not able to help on this issue" would give people a feeling that they are not being ignored, I am game. Just seems like thread clutter to me though.
