I came across this the other night when tracking vocals. Don't know how anyone else feels about this, but it got me thinking.

Selective Auto Punch would work like this:

You have a vocal track, and the verse/chorus whatever, consists of multiple lines. Most times when recording, we will take a few passes at the entire song. After we get a take with the majority workable, we go back and punch lines to fix. I'm too much of an old tape head to do it any other way, and I find it a comfortable way to work.

So the feature would give you the ability to set up multiple punches on the track at once, engage auto punch, and have record on/off as it plays through the song. For example, I use a tool (range tool maybe), highlight lines 1, 3, and 7, start the transport, and it only records over the highlighted sections.

Would also find it useful to use when listening back to the entire track, you can highlight punch regions on the fly, and know what needs to be punched from there.

Or....I may just be off my rocker. I'll let the others decide that.

In Mixbus they call it Punch Ranges.
This video shows how it works (starting at about 3:20):

Not sure though if you can have multiple ranges.

Nice.

I recall demoing Samplitude some years ago and it having dual ranges, a loop range for looping and a separate punch range for punching, which seemed like a really good idea to me.

In my more elaborate dreams, you could set any two markers as the punch I/O points, and still loop around them with the loop range.

this is a pretty good idea. i for one would like to see some of those elaborate dreams,
hope they're not too wet. (while i'm at it, this is pretty cool in my book: funky wet dreams mix)

How could anyone not click on a link with "Sex Tape" in the title?

Very funky... in the two good ways.
