Simple topic idea. Post where you ran sound today/last night/etc. with a couple pictures/videos, and a short description of the event. Doesn't necessarily have to be Presonus-related, but of course the more Presonus the better! (If this has been done before and failed, I apologize, just figure it would be a nice general topic. I'll start it off...

Thursday: Ran sound for a pop/jazz band during a special concert of a local concert series, celebrating West Virginia's 150th Birthday. There was a presentation prior to the concert, and the place was packed. Really tested my QSC system. Used everything at my disposal...4 KW153's, 4 KW181's, 4 ELX112P's, 2 ELX115P's, and 1 ELX118P (other ELX118P was rented to a friend of mine)

It was a push alright...

Saturday: Ran sound for three electro/dubstep/trap DJ's at a local night club. There was an in house PA, but it consisted of Peavey tops, Tapco subs, and was only ran by two amps (Yamaha P7000S & PV2600) so we used mine. Used 2 KW153's and 4 KW181's inside, with the other two KW153's outdoor on the patio area. 8 Fab5's behind the DJ controlled by DMXIS, four uplighting outside, and 8 more uplighting the patio area.

I ended up moving the far right LED can to flood the shelter on the right. Looked a lot better than keeping the uplight there. Everyone loved it.

Now that I've started it, post yours. Would like to see a lot more of everyone's systems, big or small

That was at Pullman Square in Huntington. I wish I could have done the one in Charleston, was a larger company, the news showed a full stage and everything.

Hi guys just a quick question, I notice you have your subs up on the stage something nobody ever does here
Do you find that it reduces the bass ?

I only did it for height issues. I had no other way to raise the height of the speakers. In theory, they were still on the ground, just not on the low ground. Next time I do a show I will probably have extra low end though, so that wouldn't be an issue.

Don't mind me butting in here but it has been known to reduce bass out front. It will also increase bass on the stage which really you don't want to do. The low end gets into all the mics ...... Muds everything up and if you have mic stands that have the round solid base - the vibration will go straight up the stand into the mic..... Not good. Mostly on hollow stages though...

But we are faced with less than perfect situations all the time that we cannot control so you just have to make due. The more I do this stuff - the less worried I am plus most people have no idea anyways..... Their favorite band is always better and sounds better.... Lol

Number one thing is to get PAID and have fun...

If the subs were around 3 1/2 feet or a little more from a boundary you lost 3dB for each boundary @ 80 hz...this can devastate a kick drum...

Well, let's see,

Last Thursday was the Third Thusday Concert Series in Jamestown NY of which I do all the sound for the summer, they had two solo acts and then an old timey band from Rochester which was wonderful, 5 vocalists, banjo, resenator guitar, upright bass, trumpet, sax, and the smallest kit I've ever seen (kick, snare, one cymbal) it was amazing how low the kick played as it was tiny. It's an outside show right downtown in a park that used to be a theater that was torn down, it has a bar next door with a (see thru) fenced in outdoor area for the drinkers. It's pretty nice and we get a lot of kids and hulahoopers, my recently purchaced Bubble King 550 was a hit again at that show

Then Friday was the Jamestown Ice Arena Summer Concert Series of which I also do all the sound, they had a great band that really packed em' in. Bass, Guitar, Keys, Drums, Trumpet, Trombone. This show is also outside, but even better, they block the street off outside the ice arena and put fences up, the band faces right up the street creating a natural ampitheater, they also roll out the portable bar making the entire street drinking friendly Very cool gig as it happens every Friday from 7-9 all summer. Last week was an amazing group of musicians from D.C. call Brent and Co. his drummer and sax player were top notch Jazz musicains that really made me smile.

And as if I hadn't worked enough yet, on Saturday I did sound at the Holiday Inn ballroom for Bill Leverty (the multi platinum record selling guitar player for Firehouse), that was a really nice gig and Bill was simply a pleasure to work with, he was really surprized to find a sound system and sound guy that was as complex and technologically driven as what I had waiting for him. He said he's friends with some VP of something at Presonus and he couldn't wait to tell him the story of doing a gig in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania and finding a guy using the StudioLive to its fullest potential, iPad and all.

It was a good weekend, now tonight I'm off to play some Jazz with some 70 year old dudes and then next week is the dreaded week of 20 bands in a week, Liberty Rocks on Wednesday 7-3 brings in 4 bands on the Street in Warren, and then I'm doing the Tiger Maple Stage at The Great Blue Heron Music Festival 7-5 to 7-7 where I will do sound for 16 bands in 3 days, and I have the smallest stage of 3 in the festival, I think they bring in about 7000 people a year for that, it's a blast! Wish me luck! I'll try to add some pics to this when I get a chance for sure

A few random pics I have on my HD. This week will be a marathon. I'm distributing sound over 1 1/4 mile of Commonwealth Ave for the Boston Pops 4th of July Spectacular (If any of you will be there, come say hi!), then a three day festival with a massive flown Eaw KF850 rig. Oh Joy!

I'm planing on implementing an end-fire sub array for the fest. I'm sick of putting 12 double 18" subs in a dumb l/r or mono cluster. If everything works out pics will follow!

It won't be until this Friday, however based on the riders, I will be lucky enough if I can have the PA flown in time for sound checks. Unfortunately the 4rth is on Thursday this year, so I don't get a day to set up and tune the rig as I have in the past!

We will actually have a crew in the shop over night re-configuring amp racks and processors for Friday!

These pictures were of the venue in Tulsa called Riverwalk. The day started out a little slow early, but the people kept coming. At the time of the fireworks, there were over 8000 in attendance throughout the entire grounds.
It was an awesome three day event for me.

Hello All! Huge audio success this weekend. I wasn't able to do an end-fire cardioid sub array due to lack of amplifier channels. HOWEVER, I was able to do the more traditional 2-1 reversed sub 'trick'. OUTSTANDING RESULTS!!!!! I delayed the front facing subs by 1.6 ms to electronically align their drivers with the rear faced sub, which was polarity reversed. Because I didn't have enough amp/processor channels to delay the out sidestacks, I just physically moved the two center clusters forward by about 3 feet, creating a physical sub-arch. Because I used 4 clusters of three, rather then 2 clusters of 6, the sub energy was incredibly consistent throughout the entire area, which covered about 5k+ people. I then used Smaart to analyze and delayed all of the Subs by about 6.8 ms until the sub energy was in time with the main PA, which was flown (big ole' EAW KF850 rig, 8 a side).

This was easily the best sounding 8590 rig I've ever tuned. The guest engineers were ecstatic! over the 3-day event, nearly all of the bands were on in-ears, so having the sub energy off the deck was a huge huge bonus for them. Also, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra performed on Sunday, their engineer was thrilled! Travis, FOH for The Outlaws was basically jumping with joy as he mixed his band, all of the vocal channels were flat except for HPF, he just leaned into the rig and it sang beautifully, he congratulated me on providing for him the best sounding 850 rig he's worked on in his career. What a great weekend!
