Just a curious question...obviously with two FW800 ports on the rear, which means you can connect to a computer, or link a second 3242 to give a total of 64 channels. Are there going to be recording limitations like there was when linking two 24.4.2's? Also, are there still only going to be 14 aux mixes, or will the additional processing allow for a total of 28 aux mixes? Just curious...

With Studio One you have no limitation on the amount tracks you wanna record.
Not sure if you can daisy chain a 32 to a 24 since the 32 sports a newer tech design but then again I could be dead wrong.

As of the initial release (form what were told) the 32 will not be chainable with any other device...Perhaps in a future update...

I don't mean 32 to 24, I mean two 32's...

Which is what I was indicating... No chaining will be available initially with any SL...

Just a wild guess here but the 32AI has card slot that will be offering a Thunderbolt card and Dante card which Thunderbolt has way more data streaming capticy and should be able to daisy chain a pair of 32s together with the Thunderbolt.

Not sure about the Dante because from what I read about their virtual soundcard you can buy will stream 64 x 64 roundtrip with core audio.
As it stands now with the current FW 400 Tech mixer design you get 52 x 52 round trip

The problem I forsee using thunderbolt w/o some external device is that thunderbolt is more or less an external pci-e bus.

This means that a device needs a bus controller to make devices communicate with each other and I dont think that the specs allows for devices to act both as a slave and master just like that.

My best bet would be dante but this may be a concern if ai-speakers are involved? However dante is speced up to 512x512 so there is plenty of room to play with...

Dante specs:
Gigabit: 512 x 512 48kHz/24bit audio channels can be sent over a single link, giving a total of 1024 bi-directional channels. For 96kHz 24bit audio the channel capacity is halved.
100Mbps (Fast Ethernet): 48 x 48 48kHz/24bit audio channels can be sent over a single link, giving a total of 96 bi-directional channels. For 96kHz/24bit audio the channel capacity is halved.

Thanks Rob for the heads up on the Dante specs with 512 x 512 definitely gives you plenty of data streaming.

Which I wasn't sure how much data streaming and only had seen the Yamaha OV196 with Dante card which was 64 x 64 with Dante's virtual soundcard.

Wonder how much latency there is ?

The latency isn't a fixed number...
