Well, should I? Got 'em in stock and will get about 15% off. I use S1 everyday now but will I feel limited by the "one at a time" style? Any gripes? Interaction issues? My specs below......

Depends on you. You know yourself best.

Me personally... I recommend it definitely. It's one high quality fader... transport controls, good sturdy buttons, pan knob helps, and some other basic functions that help you work thru your project like assigning markers, going back n forth between markers, scrolling thru a project, recording, etc. You're not just adding a fader lol... you're adding a lot more.

1) I love tactility. I don't remember what it feels like to use my mouse to adjust the software fader. Having a physical fader feels so much better... helps me make better decisions. The fader is very responsive.

2) I wouldn't be able to get thru a project without it at this point. When I need to record... i press the record button. i use it to scroll thru the project, mark up stuff, etc. this along w/ my contour designs shuttle pro is no-doubt the hub of my setup.

3) the screen buttons are really useful. helps me flip screens on/off.

of course... you can do all of this with your keyboard thru keyboard commands (b/c that's all it really is.... the faderport is preprogrammed to control the key commands.. you can even reassign things if you're goot w/ XML templates).... but, having a small compact unit is much cooler to me lol.... and to be honest, the cool factor improves me mood when working on a project, and my improved mood helps me perform at a higher level than just using the mouse & keyboard.

Only things I don't like about it are the Bank feature... which isn't very useful to me b/c the S1 mixer doesn't highlight the channel you're on when you create a bank of channels (you have to touch the fader to know which channel you're on... that's annoying). The other thing is the pan pot can get a little screwy at times.

Still worth the $99 investment. I don't think there's anything better for under $100. Might not be anything better really above $100 either lol... unless you're getting an 8 channel MCU.

My mouse hasn't been replaced... b/c you can't use a controller to drag n drop, and it's much easier to move clips around w/ a mouse... plus, you can't key command EVERYthing.... but working w/ controllers really helps cut down mouse time to only the things where the mouse is still king.

I voted for reading the F___ manual. As far as whether it will work for your way of doing things it may help.

I like it, just learning to use it still but it's pretty nice to have around, and I have a mess of this stuff.

Main thing right now is when you have a track highlighted you grab the fader for quick volume adjustment.

How much is the resolution for the fader? I assume its not midi cc with 127 steps, would make it usefull like a x/y pad for on/off actions..

Per the manual...

The FaderPort's 100mm long
throw fader delivers 1024-step resolution for writing ultra-fine and accurate fades and adjustments.

Should be enough.

@pan being a bit screwy: I don't like the sound of that!

My impulse 49 does fairly well with pan, transport and volume, but of course the volume sliders are not so good. But here's the rub, for whatever reason, unlike live for example, there is no way to have the MASTER volume assigned (somewhere in automap it says it's not possible) According to presonus, there is a switch on the faderport to go to the master volume. The cost would nearly justify that alone. Then of course the read/write/etc controls.......very useful for me.

I didn't notice it until i updated the firmware. i reverted the firmware, but it can still be a ltitle jumpy now.

IMO, it's not jumpy to the point it's a deal breaker. If you get one, do not update the firmware... i repeat, do not update. it worked just fine before.

and the resolution is fantastic. the fader can be nudged in very small increments if necessary for ulra fine tweaking. works as you'd expect.

figured i'd throw out the 2 issues i noticed just b/c i think it's right to know potential issues... but again, i seriously can't mix or even produce thru a project without my faderport

At this time, if you get a faderport, do not update the firmware. It breaks the fader on some units. Presonus is looking into it.
