I find the capture a little buggy. It will just stop sound on playback for no reason. I have to reboot my computer to get it working again. Also the recording sometimes takes me several tries to get it working. Anyone else having issues?

Symptoms like you describe are usually indicative of FireWire dropouts.

What platform are you running? Win or Mac?

A friend had the same problem. Files were on an external drive connected via FW. When the drive connection was switched to USB, the problem went away. (No problem recording via FW, just playing back.)

Since it's a HP, did you check out, that the firewire chipset is compatible...? HP often use Ricoh chipsets, and Presonus and Ricoh don't play nice...
The reason, I suggest it, is that I've got an HP ProBook 6440b, and it has a Ricoh chipset on the firewire... It ran fine with my SL16.4.2 up until UC1.6. Then the built-in firewire (4-6) gave up. Got myself a compatible Express34 fw-card (6-6) with a TI-chipset. It's all good again...

Good luck

I posted a post yesterday. on this (somewhere). probably in the wrong forum I too have had a bit of a "bug" problem which I believe is at least related to capture 2. New Toshiba laptop (EVERYTHING uninstalled that did not absolutely have to be there). i3/duel core... esata to outboard recording drive, ti chipset expressbuss card to studiolive. First... launch of capture locked up studiolive.... reboot (these things happen). Then pretty much no prob on recording & playback (6 song rehearsal... playback after every record). Problem next day... Capture playing like mad... nothing getting to mixer (firewire buttons in, input meter selected.. nothing). Also... with firewire buttons disengaged, input into the mixer also dead (but buttons worked ... and controls and such even on universal control)... After multiple re-boots (mixer & computer) playback no problem (audio out of mixer).
Next day.... fired it up again.(capture playback).. same problem... Paying a bit more attention now. Played with the "on" sequence a bit... could have been coincidence, but Computer, mixer, capture, universal control seemed to do it (unable to "play" today due to rehearsals and thunderstorm).
Unfortunately, there are two variables... The laptop is new (old one died) and Capture 2... my bet at this point is something in Capture 2 does not play nice with the Toshiba.

Can you grab some of the tools we keep in the knowledgebase and do some deeper investigating?

Normally, considering this is a windows based system, there are some adjustments that need to be made.

Usual tools are:
OHCI Tool (run it and post the text of the results)
LatencyMon (run it about 30 minutes and post the text from the report after you stop it)
A screenshot of your IRQ settings (around OHCI1394)

That will give us some stuff to work with.

My money (and I'm very very often right in these cases) is on the computer.

OK.. will do (later today if time)... Yeah,, I'm kinda with you on the computer thing.... Its really odd tho that it works perfectly sometimes... and that the firewire buttons are letting the analog audio through the gain section (not that has got me stumped).... Thanks all for the input here

It's what we do around here.

And if it is intermittent then there may still be a program or two causing you issues.

BTW, always fire the mixer up and then the computer that way the device is present on the firewire bus upon startup and can get a proper sync. Set Universal Control to run at startup as well.

MY problem solved by switchback@presonus..
"check your Dig Out buttons (per input, in the FAT channel). When those buttons are engaged and the firewire buttons too then the Mic/Line signal goes to the FAT channel and to the input meters"

Nothing against you Arthur, I don't have a dog in this race. I don't own Capture, I don't work for HP, & right now, I'm not thrilled with any of Presonus's software offerings.

But why was "buggy" the first thing to come to your mind?

If you were to do a search of this forum, you wouldn't find many issues similar to yours.

For the most part, the software does what it's supposed to do. For the most part, your computer does what it's supposed to do. Obviously there's something going on with the combination.

Have you reported this to Presonus? The guys here will help you, but it would be nice for the next guy, if you filed an official report with Presonus.

the capture software is extremely buggy. it has the same issues that the original capture has. Its almost like clockwork when mine crashes and its getting to the point of me going back to yamaha digital mixers. I have two of the 1642s and they are great live boards but for recording their software is killing them.

Let me explain here Slick.
I have been using Capture the older version without any issue, I upgraded to the newer version and it did not respond (to me anyway) as well as the older version. I ask here in the forum first because maybe, just maybe someone has already solved this issue, if not I will go to Presonus. For the most part does not work for me on show night, I need it to work, period. Maybe you run your equipment at your shows and for the most part and get by, but I do not run mine half ass like that. Being that you do not even own/run this software is all I need to know.

Josh,

Did you see my post above? Run through those tools and get us some info and we can assist you.

I honestly think it is your computer in this case. Capture stopping is indicative of firewire dropouts.
