From FL Studio documentation:

The Layer Channel is not a sound generating instrument, it passes note data from its Piano roll and controller input to any number of other Channels (child channels). For example, notes played on a Layer Channel are passed to all children of that Channel. Layers can be used to create complex instruments with different samples or to mix the sound of several instruments in one Channel, controlled by a single Layer Channel.

Is this possible in some way in Studio One?

Edit: By the way, I looked in the manual of S1. While it mentions layers, it is not like what I mean. I've been a user of FL a long time. But in time a made the switch to S1. It's possible to copy a patch from one VST instance to another and thus effectively have a layered instrument, but they both need Midi input for them to play and copying a patch does not work when the VST's are different.
The Layer channel in FL is just great for multiple instruments to play one melody, editing VST's on the fly, muting or solo-ing while other instances continue playing. It's a great way making huge sounding leads for example.

Edit 2: If this is in the wrong section, will a mod please move it to the right place?

I think you just have to duplicate the track and route the output to another VSTi.

Check out this third party plugin. If you give the demo a try, let me know what you think of it. I'm trying to get complete 9 up and going, so I can't check it out for myself right now.

If I recall there is a thread here somewhere that goes over this and I don't think it's possible the way you want to do it in S1V2.5. In Ableton Live I put Kontakt on a MIDI track, via an External Instrument (sometimes not) and on addition MIDI tracks I set the channels 1-2-3-4-etc....from Kontakt. In Kontakt I set up 3-4 instruments each on their own separate channels. I then go to one of the MIDI tracks and create a pattern, then I copy that to the other MIDI tracks and edit the arrangement so it plays perhaps differently or leave the same for layered sound.

Lower overhead since I am only using one instance of Kontakt. From what I recall here you have to have multiple instances of say, Kontakt, in order to do this. I could be wrong but that's what I last recall in that threads discussion. If it was possible that would be great. Otherwise I would be looking at rewiring Live into S1V2.5 and doing Kontakt instruments from Live for recording into S1V2.5 audio-wise. then again I am still not sure if S1V2.5 is right for me.... I prefer working in Live's Session View which only forthcomer Bitwig has to my knowledge, all others are linear and I don't work that way in working out my stuff for the most part (Dark Ambient anyways).
