Yes you can in Pro version. I would hope that you can in free version.

In Opening page configure external device. Add new device. From the list on the Left hand side, open Presonus folder in there click on Qwerty.

Then you have to select the input device on the left. I don't know what the input device will be. Experiment.

I don't know which keys do what. Experiment.

It migh be worth getting a cheap music keyboard controller. Akai LPK25 Laptop Keyboard Controller or such like. We use the M-Audio Oxygen 25, it is fine and robust enough for new students.

Does anyone know if there is a way to extend the QWERTY keyboard? As is it only covers one octave. It would be great if it could make use of more of the computer keyboard. Thanks.

I can't remember which buttons do it, but you can transpose the octaves up or dowm. When you have the qwerty gui open, I think its on the bottom right of the display. But there is no way to make it larger to play more octaves at once.

The "QWERTY" keyboard is meant for sampling sounds more than it is for performance and recording. You need to get a controller if you want to do more than that.

Music production and performance also requires a little investment towards the product and in this case you can find MIDI controller keyboards for a fairly low price, I've seen some as low as $25. If your going to use software instruments they are indispensable.

The keys "q,w,e,r,t,y,u,i, 2,3,5,6, & 7" are the only keys you can use (chromatic scale, major scale if using only the letters).
However, you can at least change the octave, using the arrows which are circled in the screenshot, below:
