OK, I've got the rhythm guitar track using Shreddage through Kontakt. It's recorded and sounds fine.
I would also like to use Kontakt instruments for 2 other parts, but I'm not sure how to get it going. When I try to record the other instruments, it doesn't.

I'm using an 8 out instance of Kontakt. I thought I would need it for multiple instruments.

I've checked the multi-timbral checkboxes to the left of the mixer in S1, but not sure what else to do. Every source I find assumes way too
much knowledge on the user's part. I can't find any resources that are S1 related.

Any help would be welcome.

I always use multiple instances of Kontakt, each for just one instrument.
That way you don't have to fiddle with the output configuration of Kontakt.

Have you seen these videos?

(The second one is for using multi-outs from Superior Drummer and S1, but the principles are the same).

I'd have to open a session and look to make sure, and we know how that's been going lately......

But make sure that your instrument inside Kontakt is set up for the correct midi channel and that you select that instrument INSIDE Kontakt before you record it as well so that you're hearing sound from it when you have your channel selected.

I'd have to open one of my older sessions to make sure, and I'm not doing anything with them until Tech Support solves my issue.

I wish I could tell you exactly what to do in S1, but since I'm using the lowly artist version... nevemind.

I've got 3 tracks going to a single Kontakt Instance. In that instance of Kontakt, I've got a bass synth assigned to midi channel A1, a West Africa instrument on midi channel A11, & a studio drummer kit on midi channel A12. It depends on how your midi is set up. I would think that it defaults with the host sequencer as A, but I don't know that. Yours may be B1-B16, or D1-D16. When you click on the port name (A1) look for the one that says "from host" & that should be the one.

Now I close the Kontakt viewer, & set up my instrument tracks in StudioOne. The first track is set up to go to Kontakt on CH1, the second track is set up to go to Kontakt on CH10, the third goes to Kontakt on CH11.

I'm with Sunmachine on this one -- have you stopped to consider *why* you need the separate instruments running from a single instance of Kontakt? A lot of people assume it's bad to open lots of instances of kontakt, each with one instrument, but really it's only a problem if you have an old computer where CPU craps out easily -- and honestly, I'm not even convinced the CPU hit is appreciably greater with multiple instances vs. one loading lots of programs. But try it out and see for yourself! It certainly will save a lot of headache with audio routing between kontakt and S1.

I run 6 - 12 instances of Kontakt per song.... no problems with it at all. What advantages do you get for running everything from one? None that I'm aware of....(save perhaps the CPU load, if that's indeed true at all).

My two cents...I also just use a seperate instance of Kontact for every instrument. Can have over six going in a song plus another six Omnispheres going, Trilian, and maybe a couple of others. never a problem. Only use multiple instruments through one Kontact when I'm layering something - brass. organs, whatever.

PS - I just looked at your computer specs. You aren't going to have a problem running 20 instances of Kontact with that bad boy.

It doesn't become a problem running multi-instances until you have libraries that use around 1 GB ram per instance and you have other stuff running. But then you've got virtual ram running too, and you aren't letting Windows manage the size of that, right?
