Perhaps i have it setup wrong,..

Whenever i record a singer, i have input monitoring on, that way i can hear them when i'm not recording actually recording.
but when they want to hear something back. i have to turn OFF input monitoring otherwise the track wont put out any audio.

i've also been told by the singer when i leave input monitoring OFF, and just use the record enable mode for monitoring, that they cannot hear them selves as loud as they could when i had the button turned ON..

i have the proper gain setup to avoid clipping and still have good signal coming in, its not too low.

so because of this, the way my workflow for recording vocals is this, i turn ON input mointoring while recording, and turn OFF input monitoring right away so they can hear their take, then i turn it back ON so i can communicate with them, and record more vocals. then turn if OFF again and repeat..

i really hope i'm doing something wrong because turning this button on and off is very tedious and makes my work flow frustrating.
any advice?

Create new track with the same input (from the singer). Swith On the Monitor in this track, and use it for communication from singer to you. And leave the Monitor switched Off on the track, where you recorded the signal.

Does that make sense to you?

so your saying, leave 1 input as the main input monitoring, and another track as the main recording track... and switch back and forth?

You can have these two track simultaneously.

The same input on both track. One is used for the listening of recorded signal (there is the Monitor Off), the secon one is used for the communication from the recrding room to the control room (there is Monitor On). You don't need to switch back and forth.

No, this is not my setup, I'm recording all tracks myself. So I don't need this kind of setup.

Isn't thare a "Tapestyle" monitoring mode in S1?

Input signal in stop and record, playback from "tape" in play mode. That should do it

Two macros here...

- Tape Start: set the Monitor of selected track Off and start playback.
- Tape Stop: stop playback, and set the Monitor of selected track On.

You can assign your own shortcuts to these macros, of course.
