Hey folks,

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem before. Specifically I'm using an Axiom 61 key keyboard controller (1st generation) and it seems to have taken on a life of it's own and is generating extremely sporadic MIDI messages that Studio One is picking up. It's completely random, and doesn't seem to have any pattern, but when I've got the Axiom plugged in it sends MIDI on 47, 48 and 49 which it's mapping as "controller volume".

If you watch this clip you'll see it happening. Anything that's saying "NoteOn" or "Controller Modulation" is me hitting a key, anything saying "Controller Volume" is me doing nothing to the controller at all. Notice when I turn the volume up on FM8 and the controller volume MIDI goes through it turns the volume back down.

It's happening automatically...and I literally can sit and watch it happen if I sit in my studio doing NOTHING...it will sporadically send these messages...

Any clues what might be causing this??

Hey,

I have seen very similar problem in one studio, with M-Audio Axiom too.

The problem was with little shakes of the keyboard during playing the keyboard. Is your table solid?

Yes, it is on a pretty stable surface, I'd have to knock it pretty hard to shake the keyboard. But even if the keyboard is not moving...I.E. I'm sitting quietly in my chair, motionless...the whole room silent...the controller messages still pop up...but there's no pattern, no discernable cycle or anything like that...it seems completely random.

It's a new development, I suspect my controller is just borked, but I find it odd that ONLY those three MIDI messages are being generated (47 48 and 49)...if the controller were failing I would have thought it would be more widespread than that. In any case, I also noticed another issue, it seems like the LCD screen on it is flickering slightly as well...which never happened before, but if I plug in a power supply and take it off the USB power (which was running through a powered USB hub) it stops flickering...SOOO it seems that the board on the controller is somehow failing...I don't know...seems odd.

In any case...I submitted a ticket to M-Audio, I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever experienced similar issues and if so, what did they do about it...

Yes!! I saw this with my Axiom 49 and that's one of the reasons I replaced it with an Akai. I noticed the problems when I was doing some client videos and needed to us the midi monitor for some drum programming. The messages don't seem to effect the performance much but I later found I was having sustain pedal issues. So I just got rid of it.

Right, normally it doesn't affect performance, but the Axiom auto maps to some parameters and it DOES change some things on my VSTs...which is irritating. I can get around it by reassigning those parameters to MIDI messages that the VST doesn't use, but that's a pain in the butt.

I'm looking at getting the MPK61 and being done with it...not the first or only problem I've had with the Axiom.

I bought the MPK49 and all my issues went away. I don't even use the template. I just made my own with Control Link and all works perfectly!

This actually sounds like there is a midi loop (perhaps from the Audio Media Setup of a hardware midi loop in some hardware keyboards or sound modules.
Hope this helps someone!
