Perhaps it's a good time to simply say thank you. It's just worth passing along that People do look out for one another. Even if our goals are different, and some not so different at that. As Jay mentioned early on, this is not his thread, but "yours". People have contributed, and I intend to do that as well. I suppose if the discussion get's lengthy, we can always post in the general discussion, and if we purchase, and wish to share the success of that purchase (or heed caution), note the purchase back here to inform others.

Thank you.

I tried the midi guitar last night but I only had about a half hour to load, and try it. Way too premature to discuss it. I'll demo tonight and tomorrow and have something to report on Thursday. Suddenly I feel the weight of passing along information and having that review be something others can rely on. That's fair. I'll keep it brief (Tsssuh, yeah right, for those who know me by now).

The reason I need a few days is, if 1st impressions account for anything, I am initially disappointed with Jam Origin's Midi Guitar. Here's why:
1st impressions of the midi guitar 1.0 by Jam Origin: (extremely early impressions)
What's Good:
1. Loading was easy, and ready to play, as self standing, or through your DAW. I chose to run it solely through S1.

What's bad:
1. I wish I had more good, the tracking takes some fairly hard picking hard. Obviously this requires setting up the sensitivity, as any midi guitar person knows. The G, B, and E (1 thru 3rd strings) I could not even pick hard enough to trigger, if that's an indication, and my input guitar track was quite hot, as I checked. This leads me to my 2nd and major disappointment.
2. The damn trial plugin cuts off after about a minute! I was waiting for it to turn back on, but geez. If you have to adjust sensitivity, out of the gate, a little time to do so would be nice. No, it would actually be fair. I get the feeling "What is Jam Origin trying to hide?"

Anyway, the way this test is going, it wont need to be posted outside this thread as mentioned earlier.

Forget Thursday, I'll report back tonight as I will have more time. These things do take adjusting and the manufacturer should allow the product to be set up, then allow the minute to play. It's like I will have to race to throw all sensitivity on high, and start playng quickly after to get an idea. What's up with that.
Btw, I will also run a audio check to see how pitch tracks through the mic.

More later.

well mr_tawan... since we are being honest... i too have used my share of 'pirated' software in the past and i know you have all heard it before but the only reason i did was because since approx. 2005... demos are for the most part a thing of the past... especially in gaming. publishing houses turned away from it because demos were killing sales. the original idea was let people see and test things would make them want to buy it but that did not happen. matter of fact sales actually were dropping. so there was a consensus by publishers years ago to stop demos claiming it was wasted money having to work two different lines... one the full game and the other producing a demo package. basically calling it down sizing and cutting costs. now they depend on hype to sell product and for the most part they have been passing off unfinished goods or downright crappy games or applications. now you basically have to buy the product flat out based on the hype or... as in gaming... trailers based on cut scenes. rarely do you see actual gameplay in the trailers. i started getting the cracked versions of things to test it out. i knew it was wrong but so was the way the consumer was being treated. i grew tired of being ripped off. i grabbed things i was interested in as best i could. i tried it and if i liked it... i removed the software and bought it. if i did not like it... i again removed it and DID NOT buy it. yes it was wrong and i am not trying to justify my actions... just stating the facts as i see it. i have NEVER been a thief and i DO have a conscience. i do not have pirated software on my computer especially in my music gear. the great thing about music production... most all give out demos because they in fact believe in their product and are proud to show it off. i have invested in myself. since getting into music production my gaming has dwindled to practically nothing. the few games i do play are ONLY by companies that i have a track record with and franchises that i have played since they came out. so trust me... i was a bad boy also so i certainly am not judgemental in the matter. as it was said... that is really weird Jim that you stated... "what are they trying to hide" that is EXACTLY what the gaming world has in fact been doing that i was just posting on. game production has been hiding crappy games and trying to convince if not force people to buy outright by looks of the packaging or cut scene movies.

i noticed in the beta i tried of midi guitar did have trouble with lower registers and tones. i see they have a bass version and i am quite skeptical on it's accuracy. i too have the demo but have yet to install it. i want to see if and how it has improved.

Wow, that's too bad with gaming. I don't mind a few kinks with software, but I'll be damned to buy into empty promises. A good reminder to all when seeing, or reading reviews that look positive. Obviously some companies are reputable, so no problem there. It simply pays to just be a little vigilant.

I'm still checking the midi guitar. I am trying to be optimistic, and I want to pass along reliable information.
I will give Jam Origin a piece of my mind. turning off software in one minute is like test driving a motorcycle, and as soon as you let the clutch out, the salesman shuts the ignition key off and says "So wadya think?" ............Think? I think I'd like to pour the gas in this tank over your F&<$ng head.

Jim

well it don't surprise me jim... i have actually downloaded demos before for the first time and when i start it up it claims my demo has expired. now THAT is crazy. something else that is crazy... on steam and other sites they actually want you to pay for alphas and betas... they actually release games long before they are even close to being finished. full price claiming it is "early access" and you can help in developing the game. what is sad they actually sell. kids will buy anything with their parents money it seems highway robbery is ok nowadays. lol

You guys keep it up with all of these confessions and whatnot, and I'm asking the mods to move this thread to the Oprah forum where it belongs.

I bought the Kramer Master Tape plug in from Waves when it was on sale last weekend. for $24, I could not pass it up.

Haven't had a chance to use it a whole lot but I put it in a mastering chain on my project page and its staying there.

As it should be. The only thing that I noticed is you may want to0 put it on the individual song insert instead of the post. I have a small project now, and the songs have varying levels. This plug really comes alive when you pay attention to the in/out meters. It was affecting the3 songs differently, not necessarily bad, but in a way I didn't want. Also, if you have it on the master insert, and you have any plugs on the individual songs, the same could happen.

Other than that, I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Thanks you all for the warm welcome .

@jBranam: ironically I had been in the video game business for a year, although it would be considered as a rural area for the industry. I live in Bangkok which is not a capital city for video game industry by any mean. Because of that I met a few composers working for game developers.

The gaming business has changed because of smartphones. I quit game developer company because I thought I could make games in my spare time (that's never existed).

Actually I'm quite good in C++ programming, doing that for living for almost a decade now. May be I should study more on real-time processing and VST API. Who knows one day your latest purchase might be one of my code .
