The footprint data specked for SL32AI on this web-site is identical to my SL24 but it does rise to 50 lbs. (20 more than my SL24 - thats a pretty neat trick) Lowdbrent is of the opinion the new AI offering would operate at 96K however the specks are still advertising 44.1 or 48K. I know there was a lot of info to package and distribute quickly however, accurate data from the manufacturer should be a no brainer.
I also would like to get an explanation for continued use of resistive faders when optical encoders are apparently in the same price range and generally promise a much longer life. (what are the pro and cons)

I think all the specs might be fairly close except for the width...I figure add another 8" to the 24 and that should be about right for the 32Ai...

The Weight sounds about right as well...20 LBS for the extra's, but it may end up a BIT heavier... but we'll see...

The 32.4.2AI will ship with 44.1kHz and 48kHz capability only.

We're exploring the possibility of adding 96kHz support in the future, but the feasibility of higher sample rate support has not yet been fully assessed so we can't promised anything.

Wesley,

Is this something you are considering with the 32 as it will be shipping in a month or so, or will it have to be a V2 of the 32 in the future? I am ready to buy a 32 right now and really want 96k. I guess my question boils down to is the unit potentially capable in its initial design possibly?

Thanks,

~TJ

If we're able to add 96kHz support (and that's an 'IF", boys and girls ) it would be added in a future update. When the 32.4.2AI ships (in a couple months) it'll be 44.1k and 48k only. All the internal components are capable of 96kHz, but figure you're double the processing power necessary to perform every function on the mixer to double the sample rate. Like I said, it's not something we've ruled out, but we need to verify that adding support for higher sample rates won't tie our hands to add the cool DSP features on our drool list.

Why do you want 96kHz? Is it just for tracking?

Well, for one, wouldn't want another board without 96kHz sampling as that is quickly becoming the standard for recording.

I don't buy CD's anymore, I buy Blu Ray Concert DVD's. If I were serious about recording something to be for sale, I'd be trying to make a hi def Blu Ray concert DVD. I'm pretty sure 96kHz is standard for Blu Ray.

uuggghhh

I love the "live" behaviour of my 16.4.2. I would def. buy the 32.4.2 for my studio. But not with 48 kHz. When I buy a new board I have to offer my customers the possibility of recording in 96 kHz.... that's really sad...

Just add a x-over between Main and Sub out, but please give us the 96 kHz

Best regards

I find it a bit odd the "Have to Have" 96K recording requirement from some of the folks on this thread. The last time I checked the audio file market is all but dead and current marketing of music for commercial purposes is considerably less than the old pro standard of 24/48 with compressing to MP3 and similar digital transfer standards including radio distribution exchanges. 10 years ago one might have made an argument for 88.2 / 96K sample rates however the improved converters commonly in use today negate any perceivable reason to go beyond 48K. One of the $25,000 + big console providers has challenged Midas and Yamy to prove their 96K offerings are sonically equal to their 48K desk and the last time I checked there were no takers. I some ways some of us are bit like a pack of raccoons: we will chase the next shinny object that shows up.

Read between the lines... In nearly no case I would record my own band in 88.2 or 96 K. But if a payer wants to record in 96 I want to be able to do it...

100% agree. I don't necessary need 96 K, but some paying customers may want it.

But most people see this things from a hobbyist perspective (as in not having paying clients).
Without the 96 K option the StudioLive mixers resides more to the Live side than the Studio side IMO.
We all have different needs and reasons for wanting different features and specs.

So please be friends
