Got Studio One 2. Love it overall. I just have one major workflow complaint.

Coming from another DAW, here's how I used to add a virtual instrument:
1. Add a track with the instrument on it.
2. Give it a name.

Here's how I need to do that in Studio One 2:

1. Add a track with instrument (drag - drop or otherwise)
2. Rename the track
3. Find the console channel and rename that.
4. Find the instrument instance and rename that.

Is there any way around it? I'll never need multiple tracks / console strips for a virtual instrument. Can I rename the track, instrument instance and console channel - all three in one go?

How do I keep track of stuff in my song? I've got tracks named properly as I drag instruments in: Piano, Bass Synth etc.
And then I go to my mixer and it's all Presence1, Presence2, Massive1, Massive2. etc.

I agree, I feel like there are too many steps to the process as well.

Totally agree. I never had to do so much renaming either. I really can't understand WHY my mixer channel doesn't follow the track name. If you work with audio tracks it actually does it right. I really hope that they will change that one day.

You have not thought that through.

One Instrument can have many outs in S1. That's why instruments and faders should not be linked. Out of a single instance of Kontakt I'll have a fader for each piece of the drum kit, there will be, sax, trumpet, Wurlitzer, synth pads, percussion. And I want to name them as I please...

What you're complaining about is by design....

I can't see a single reason WHY tracks and channels shouldn't be linked (or should have at least the choice). Sure, multi-timbral VSTi's is a different matter but I also use a lot of normal VSTi's (Albino, Blue, Zebra etc.). Right now every time I name my synth "bass" or whatever, I have to do the same for the mixer. Why on earth would I want to do that? I ALWAYS give it the same name. It is just logical. The way it is at the moment (what you call "by design") doesn't make any sense. So my suggestion would be to let the users decide by a simple tick box within settings or something. Btw, Cubase offers that choice. This isn't just a FL studio feature.

I was going to ignore this post. But I totally agree! The instrument tracks should behave like audio tracks. Or. At least give me the options to
make it behave like I need it to. I won't say I "Hate" it. But I will say I "Highly Dislike the current behavior."

And for the record. I have NEVER used Fruity Loops[u][i]. (Yes! I'm a HATER)

There are a couple of design issues, but NONE of them make me Hate S1.
And I have no problem (For Now) learning to adjust and work around work flow issues. I've always had to do that with every DAW I've used.

BUT! I Totally agree that this is annoying!

i happen to agree here as well.
naming is laborious in S1v2.
its not like that in other DAWS PT, cubase etc

Agree wholeheartedly. I've never had to do so much renaming in a DAW.

Most of the other DAW's do this automatically. Logic will name the track with the preset name of the VI (if it's provided by the plugin). This name will flow to the mixer channel and all the way to an audio bounce/export (another S1 complaint of mine - who wants 8 audio tracks named ezDrummer 1-8 instead of Kick, Snare, HiHat, etc?).

I get the multi-out VI thing, but not everyone works that way. I prefer to use one instance of Kontakt per track vs the multi-channel outs.

S1 is incredibly intuitive, but falls short in areas like this.

Even having a list of commonly used track names would help. Things like piano, acoustic or electric guitar, vocal, synth, bass etc could be listed in a drop down menu when you click to name a channel. You could also be able to add your own names of commonly used instruments in an edit feature. I had two stand alone recorders that had this feature. Very fast and used all the time. Saves constantly typing the same things over and over and over again.

Agreed. It's not something I hate. Nor can I really think of anything I hate with S1. Still, it would be nice to have the option to sync the mixer channel and track names by selecting this in options.

There's always going to be some book keeping involved, and it's a real good practice to do so when creating tracks.

Not a show stopper, but since Presonus are dedicated to improving on workflow, perhaps they could have a look at this.

Yes an instrument can have many outs, but you could defeat such auto naming, or simply select to add a numerical suffix XXXXX(1), XXXXX(2), and so on to added track outs. Or define the added outs your own way.

with some options to customize auto naming ourselves.

Agreed, it would be alot faster if the channels we're linked. this has been a major request for quite sometime.

I also agree! Maybe throw this in 2.5.1. I can't imagine it being difficult to program. Seems simple.
