I haven't tried 7 (last I tried was 5 or 6)

Workflow is king.

S1 has all of the tools needed, and even more w/ the 2.5 release. Legato midi functions just made things reeaallllll interesting.

Not an appropriate place to start a discussion of a competing product compared to Studio One, but go ahead any way.

I think we know who will win this one.

I sold my Cubase 6.5 license and have never regretted it. That being said, from what I am reading, Steinberg still have not addressed the poor window management, especially with multiple monitors. To me that's a huge deal breaker. Going feature for feature, Cubase is going to come out on top. It just will because it's a more mature platform. Now, take that list of features and pare it down to a "what do I really use?" type of list and many, like myself, will find that full drag and drop, the ease of workflow, the window management, the total tracks to finished project within the same DAW concept and a zillion other things end up trumping a long list of features.

What I'm saying is all of these DAW are fine in their own right.
The user needs to determine what is most important to him/her and then pick that DAW.

Bring on C7, I'm looking forward to the new features! Glad to see both daws got an update, though I can't say there's much I'd benefit from with the S1 release yet, seems like it's just a bunch of under the hood stuff, or features I don't use much.

i just can't look past the six freezable inserts limit that's still in C7.

i was shocked when it wasn't in version 6. stunned when it wasn't addressed in 6.5. and now that's it's still not in v7, it's jaw-dropping.

i may just unplug my Cubase dongle to save the electricity the red LED uses.

The difference is that cubase has feature that don't mesh together to make a cohesive unit as a whole. They are individually useful but the integration isn't there.

right.

which for me is:

1. SPEED (workflow) & 2. INTUITIVENESS (ease of use) - which are damn near THE SAME THING, lol.

Studio One does EVERYTHING, FAST...and for it to only be in version 2.5, BRIGHT SKIES ARE ON THE HORIZON.

Sold my Cubase 6.5 as well. Lovely GUI and I liked the split arrange.
Terrible workflow and who ever wrote the manual should be shot, figuratively
speaking of course. But who ever wrote the manual for sonar should
be shot!

pointless question, since as of december 4th, NOBODY except steinberg or their retailers have tried cubase 7. it's released on december 5th. try asking the question again tomorrow or the day after tomorrow (ta da!).
in any case, i'm a cubase and studio one user. cubase 7 has lots of good new features, but for me the fact that they didn't include ARA support for melodyne is a big disappointment. so although i will inevitably upgrade, i'm leaving it a while this time.
cubase is still in all probability the best daw overall (e.g. it has a score editor and a dedicated drum editor for people who need those things). studio one has some nice touches and i like it for what it does well. for melodyne, it is the best, no argument.
that's a balanced view from somebody who 1. owns lots of daws and 2. does it for a living
but of course, this forum isn't the place for my daw is better than your daw comparisons...

Oh yes, I agree.
I've had just Cubase LE5 (bundled with a product), and it has been enough to understand that doesn't fit my needs, because all that I need is practicability and efficiency: FL Studio and Studio One, of course.
Honestly, Cubase 7 will never change my personal attitude.

This is why Studio One is better than cubase
https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/cubase-7-known-issues/kb_back/2020.html

No plug ins that are before VST 2.4 are compatible, neither are Ilok 1 plugs. Anyone remember how they didn't tell users they were dropping support for direct x plugs.
