I right clicked on one of my track layers > selected Hide Layer. It did just that .

But how do I bring this back?
Can't seem to find something like "Show all layers", "Show hidden layers". Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

Right click to the track (in the field, you can find the name of the track, Mute/Solo/Record/Monitor, buttons, etc.), and choose: Expand Layers. This toggle Show/Hide layers.

You can make your own shortcut for this.

Unfortunately (and I don't understand, why), this is not in the Track menu.

Thanks

I agree, it should reside the Track menu.

We acted a bit fast. The method you mentioned above (Expand Layers), I knew (even made me a Key Command).

But....... When I mark a Layer (ie beneath the main track) and right click > then choose Hide Layer only that Layer is hidden (do not hide same Layer for linked tracks???).
This Layer will not show up again using the method Expand Layers. Can't seem to find any other way to bring this "hidden" Layer back in view.
This has the potential to be a nice "house cleaning" workflow in larger sessions.

Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

There is no point in being able to "Hide" Layers if there's no method of bringing it back???? There has to be. Anyone else?

I think you have to make it visible again from the track list.

I do agree though, there should probably be another general function there "Show Hidden Tracks (or Layers)" to get those back without opening the track list. I also think (and I'm guessing based on some past comments) they're really careful about what they add to the context menus (and preference screen in that regard) and all that because if you keep adding stuff, before you know it the context menu is really huge and unwieldy.

But that function sounds like a good one to me, to restore hidden tracks.

P.S. "Activating" a hidden inactive layer from the inspector's layer list will also make it visible again, so there's that method.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. It helped.
Now I'm not that crosseyed any more

Did I say I miss the this kind of Track List in Cubase/Nuendo???
I'm not used to it, so I had the track list hidden. Well well, we learn something every day

Thanks again.

There is track-list in the new Cubase 7/Nuendo 6. But it's in the Mixer window only, not in the Arranger or Editor window. Can you understand this? I can't.

No, I don't quite understand that either.

The mixer changes are - definite - improvements, and Cubase 7 looks really nice imo, but Steinberg always makes some really odd UI decisions.

I looked at that mixer video a few times and from what I can gather, you still can't just simply select two or more channels and gang the faders, you have to click a button to temp group them, and click another button to temporarily suspend the group to adjust something by itself. It (to me) makes no sense next to what most everyone else does, temp fader grouping on selection and real group override with a key mod.

They - for some unknown reason - seem to often just ignore the current best case existing examples and do something else entirely not quite as user friendly.

But anyway, Cubase 7 is definitely (from what I can see) better for the end user than 6, especially the mixer. But my initial perceptions might be wrong. I'll see when i get a chance to demo it.

Steinberg is somewhat stubborn.

You can have the best idea in the world handed to them, and they just "have to" make their own twist on things. Complicate things if necessary for triumphing through "their way".

They invented the Vst technology, so no one will arrest them for implementing good, fully working methods found in other DAW's.
But again, they have to "make it their own".

I really like Nuendo (user since version 1.6), but Steinberg is a strange company regarding their business strategy.
I've also used Cubase since SX1, so I had my fair share of frustration throughout my history with them. But I have stuck with them.

Maybe Studio One will change that. Who knows? Very positive so far.

Have a nice weekend.

Using v2.6.2 here, and still the only way to un-hide hidden layers is via the Track List. It can be a nightmare the first time you hide a take by accident and then you go mad trying to figure out how to bring it back! Including an option in the track context menu to show all hidden layers, as proposed above, is the best solution.

Alternatively, I wish Presonus allowed users to choose what is included in the undo history. Personally I would check all the boxes there because I like to be able to undo everything. This would allow users to undo hiding of layers.

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core i7 920 CPU, 12 GB RAM
RME FireFace 400, NI Audio Kontrol 1
Presonus Studio One 2 v2.6.2 64-bit

My feature wish list:
1. Automation clips
2. Ability to (optionally) undo everything, inc. plugin and mixer knob/fader/buttons, add/remove insert, add/remove plugin, etc...
3. Mixer snapshots
4. Wraparound slide audio items like in Reaper
