Hi David.

After running splashtop, I have found that you actually DO need the script if you aren't connected to a WAP.

The script is for anyone who doesn't want to haul around an extra modem, connect it via Ethernet to the Mini, etc. The script sets up an auto "ad-hoc" network on your mini when you turn it on, so it will work "stand-alone" if, for instance, you are in the middle of nowhere with only your mini and the ipad.

So bottom line (if I'm understanding this) is that you still need the script, plus you then need to connect to the mini from the iPad via Wifi. - THEN you can use splashtop.

Hi Jake !
Thanks for that topic : this script permits me to get a great mobile and amazing solution for recording...
However, before buying the last mini, I wanted to try it on my 6 year old macmini ! It runs on snow leopard (10.6. and the script crashes.
I tried to understand and edit the code, but failed !!!
Here's te error for the code :
error "Error in System Events : unable to get menu item \"Create Network…\" of menu 1 of menu bar item 6 of menu bar 1 of process \"SystemUIServer\"." number -1728 from menu item "Create Network…" of menu 1 of menu bar item 6 of menu bar 1 of process "SystemUIServer"

I've tried many "autoadhoc" scripts but it always crashes at the "create network". Can you help me ??
thanks !

I found how to do it without the script !
Juste use the Automator, a software included in mac OS, start "record" then create your adhoc network, then record it as an application, and make it launched automatically on startup : it works perfectly !

Looks good! You can even specify an IP with the workflow!

Thanks!!!

Yes ! It seems you can easily do many things with it !
It seems pretty stable : I've tried to crash the automated process, but it always works...

Hi,

Has anyone found the best way to do this on mountain lion?

If not I'm considering going back to SL anyway....

Thanks

Hi guys,

I am a noobie when it comes to Mac mini and using iPad as it's sole display. I have a Mini 2012 with Mountain Lion. Do I still need the script to create the ad hoc connection? Is there an updated script for 10.8? Or would the Automator work in my case?

Thanks in advance.

I could do with some help with the automator - I record my little create network dialog and save it then drop it into the startup actions. Problem is, instead of mousing up to the wifi icon, it hits the little battery status right next to it (and obviously fails)

Is there a cunning trick?

Hi Jake,

Don't know if you are still monitoring this thread, but I'm wondering if you guys ever updated the script for Mavericks? Long shot, I know, but I had to ask.

Thanks,

Did you find something wrong in specific or are you just asking in general?

Could you let us know what your network name and password are? Try 13 characters in the password. Other than that, if you could record the script in operation and let us know the fail message, perhaps we could help from there.

If you run into a loop in Maverick, try striking this line:
