Bill, a couple of months use? and you haven't had any problems? I would hope not! The telling of the tail will be if they last a year...in heavy use...As others have indicated they do fail, and the customer service is NON EXISTENT..That is where QSC and the price of product comes in. They stand behind their product. Do they fail? I have to assume so, but it's what happens AFTER the failure that determines if a company is worth it's salt.

Alto is a overseas company known for their 'Behringer' like 'disposable' product lines. The products I have seen of theirs look and feel cheap... I don't own any and don't plan to any time soon, but I'm not in the market for any powered speakers either... I have a stable of Anchor Xtreme's and some RCF ART 312's and a few Behgringer B212's.

Were not singling you out but you have to calm down a bit, it's like your taking this personally...We can see you like them and that's fine, they also fit into the OPs' price range.

I am not a JBL fan so I'll avoid the discussion of the 515's, and agree that the 600 series is likely the LOWEST of their speakers that are even worth a listen.

There are powered subs out there that are decent, but you pay for them...Personally I am a speaker builder/designer and I use LABsubs, and some small portable cabs designed by Fane for smaller gigs.

We use Behringer B-212D powered speakers for monitors. These are typically $200 ea, have a great warranty and can go pole mounted if need be. Behringer has shown to reliable. We had one fail ( out of 6) and Behringer fixed it free. Taking into consideration the damage monitors can take being on the floor ( rain, beer, kicked) these have held up well. We do store them in a large road case. For mains, QSC K12's and EV Live X 18's.

I gotta say I am not a fan of powered speakers at all. If you had to get some, first go with wood. Second, I have seen some great Turbosound speakers.. However, powered and let's say 4 speakers under $1400?

I still would not go powered. I would get a Crown amp, or QSC, and run 4 passive speakers. 2 tops, 2 monitors. A good cheap speaker ( not too cheap) is the Yamaha club V series ( nice narrow horn for better volume).. Why passive? They are lighter, they use ONE cable to each one ( no looking for power everywhere), they are virtually indestructible - they will never temp out, they do not care if liquid is spilled or raining on them, and they usually have a more truthful Db rating than stats of powered speakers. Also if the amp for some freak reason, goes, you just need another amp, not amo and speaker. Also if one speaker goes, you also lose it's amp.

QSC HPR series is likely the best powered speaker for the money, but they are about a grand each. So, my money would be one one amp, and 4 passive speakers... there are a lot more pros to passive than active speakers, in my opinion.

I think Powered is the better way to go and you'll find many on PRoSound WEb light and Sound Forums . net who agree. For many reasons and LIGHT not being one of them.

I have EV Sba 760's powered 15's for sale right now if you want them - moved up to powered 18's

I am in Canada. So I go with Yorkville for availability and service is easy. But they don't need service.

A pair of LS801P's and a pair of EF500P's on top. Even 2 tops/side depending on venue. But, you are looking at $1500 for each speaker if going new. ($6000!) I have the LS801P's, but not the EF500's yet. I will though. For the time, I have four NX55P's (2 per side) and they are ok, but the 2" horn exit is important. The NX55's are only 1" and while they make great speakers for DJ purposes, in a live situation, the vocals just aren't the same as a speaker with a 2" exit and it is a noticeable difference. The best 12" boxes will have a 2" horn exit. Make fine monitors too.

Selling a pair of EV Live X ELX 115P and a pair of EV Live ELX 118P subs if any one is interested. Why? Got a pair of the Bose L1 Model 2 soon after I got the EVs and I hardly use them. They are in great shape.

StudioLive 312 and 315AI

Just wait for them to come on the market in a few months and they will blow your mind! Been listening to the 328AI all week and even the guys from some of the other big makers who were at NAMM were giving them the big thumbs up.

These things are scary good!

Is the 328 suited to a classic rock bar band? Thinking two tops over two subs. Which of their new tops would you choose to pair with the subs for loud guitars, bass, drums, keys, and multiple vocals?

We used a pair of 328 and two pair of S18 in a very large room with500-600 people at the release party.

They handled it with ease. I'm going that route. I've not heard the others in a large enough area but I would assume they will be equally as powerful.

If you want the option of running without subs, AND the most output of the group... get the 15's. If you will always be using subs and want the best fidelity of the group, the 328's would be the way to go. Wesley came on another thread and offered these thoughts...

Well I guess my decision will be based on if I can afford the tops and subs at the same time then

The 15" tops should get pretty low if the 328s are any guide.
