The live sound gang has started a thread that talks about basic mixing as a way of teaching how to really do a basic mix.

It involves one of the demo songs that came with S1 or Capture. If you would like to jump in there are some rules.

Must use the same song as everyone else. 'I'm alright' from the demo songs (If you don't have it let us know, we can get it for you)
You may not use anything but the most basic of tools (only allowed channel EQ, mixer, no automation, amp and speakers)
You may not use any plug ins, vst, effects, compression, gate, or anything else. Just the basics.
You may not use ProEQ, only a basic channel strip EQ with no more than four bands of full parametric.
You may not run the song through, in it's entirety, more than three times, including if you have it on loop (you are allowed to pause)

Final product should be uploaded as mp3 to the thread.

If you wish to remain anonymous PM your final work to any member of the Mod Squad (names in green at the bottom of the main page) and we will assign you a number so that you can track which one is your anonymously.

Here's the thread. http://forumsarchive.presonus.com/posts/list/28273.page

Feel free to comment on the different mixes and please be kind when posting. Especially if you have not submitted any work of your own.

This is a learning tool for both the live sound and studio folks and we will add more to it down the road. And this is a challenge but not a contest.

Tallest guy in the Mod Squad with all his hair still on his head.

No I'm not a freaking pilot!! The Air Force won't let me have a suit with a zipper...or sometimes shoestrings.

My advice and suggestions should never be considered advice or suggestions. These are mostly insane ramblings of a poor aircraft mechanic who can, strangely enough, still hear.
