Just confirmed I can run both the 24.4.2 plus the AB 1818VSL on the same computer and with back and for between the two remote apps without much trouble, but haven't taken it any further. Just curious if anyone is doing anything interesting with a SL/AB combo live (hey, that's kind of catchy, lol). First thing that comes to mind, and I think it's been mentioned, is a drum mixer.
Anyone manage to route a submix from the AB back to a stereo pair back to the SL over firewire?

I just stuck my ABVSL1818 in my rack for that exact reason. I was going to get an 8-channel preamp, but I thought actually being able to use the ABVSL to submix would be more versatile, and it can act as a backup mixer in a pinch. I haven't used it yet, but have gotten as far as you, having opened both control panels, and connected to both via the iPad.

I'm making an 8-channel snake to run 6 channels of wireless mics and a CD/media player (all in the rack with the ABVSL1818 ). For normal gigs, I'll have my StudioLive on top of my rack case, and will run the snake to channels and stereo returns on the mixer, but for small, talking-head-type gigs, all I need is the rack with the wireless mics and the background music, and my AudioBox will act as the mixer.

Let me know if you get to use the dual setup before I do! I'll report back once I see mine in action.

I guess I'm gonna have to brake down and buy one of these VSL models. I've been lovin' my 16.4.2 for two years, but it's not the best for hauling around. I've got a FS Mobile, but it only has two preamps, and the onboard DSP in the VSL sounds pretty awesome!

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. I haven't been able to bring myself to carry JUST the AudioBox to a show though, without a backup mixer. It's not that I don't have faith in Presonus gear; I'd just be worried about a computer crash (even though I rarely have one) or glitch, and the AudioBox doesn't work in standalone mode.

The A&H ZED10FX has served me well as an adapter, converter, quad mic pre, level meter, stereo DI box, usb recorder, standalone FX processor, emergency backup mixer, and general audio swiss army knife though!

I just got the AB1818VSL and so far it's been flawless at rehearsals with my MacBook Pro. I'm not worried about it at a gig.

(Then again, I've never had my MacBook crash on a gig)

We've had several 3 hour rehearsals without the slightest hiccup.

We always have a backup mixer in the trailer for just such an occasion!

Yeah, I don't think I'd go to any gig without a backup mixer; learned the hard way a couple of years ago!

My main mixer is the SL24. I carry an SL1602 with me just in case. Thankfully in 2 years, I've never had an issue.

Cool. I have a 24.4.2, and that's what I'm hoping to use my ABVSL1818 for: a summing box and/or a backup mixer. I thought hard about the 16.0.2 before going with the AudioBox! How do you like your 16.0.2? Do you use it for smaller gigs, or only for a backup?

Sure would love to see a 16 xlr input version of the Audiobox. Not only would it make for a great backup to the StudioLive, but it would serve quite well in smaller, tight venues. Using the remote App, this setup can be tucked away just about anywhere.

Good input, folks.

@ Andrew; I have pretty much the same concept as you. My two wireless units and AB are in a rack together to use for smaller gigs. And, I also have a FireStation (remember those? lol) attached via ADAT, which my wireless' are plugged into, actually. The part I like is I have a backup to the backup, as the FireStation can work as a standalone analog mixer.

@ fazmanicg: Incase you didn't know, you can get 16 XLR inputs (plus stereo sp/dif) by connecting any ADAT compatible preamp. At this point any extra ADAT outputs are not available when using VSL, but who knows what's down the pike.

And one more clarification, the DSP is not exactly built in; it comes from the attached computer, but the processing is at a very low level which produces practically no latency.

Thanks. Yeah I knew that .... But not having them in VSL makes it useless to mix with. My thought is to just use that, a macbook pro and an iPad. How sweet would that be for smaller gigs

You can definitely use the ADAT inputs in VSL, just not the outputs. The next "gotcha" could be monitoring, though. You get three stereo monitor mixes, which, supposedly you can workaround to separate them, but it's not ideal.

Cool ... did not know that. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Much appreciated.
