blocks, clips, session, matrix or some form of pattern based sequencing

Some way to compose music in patterns or "blocks" and then string these patterns together to form
a song, with a way to use this in conjunction with the linear sequencer so we can mix blocks/patterns
with linear sequenced data.

A way to produce pattern based arrangements as well as linear would be awesome. I know many others like
me who love to compose in blocks, but still like the ability to add linear data in with those blocks all in one
sequencer.

Maybe a "pattern mode" that we could build the blocks/patterns in, then a "pattern track" that we could
load the "pattern holders" into to form the song, which would tell the tracks included in each pattern when to play.

It would be very awesome and I could finally get rid of Ableton Live (session view is the only reason for keeping it)

That said...I still prefer to compose in S1 most times over Live now that I'm on a 64 bit machine, it's just a lovely
experience!

The pattern track sounds a lot like Jeskola Buzz, in a way. You build individual patterns and then go to the Pattern Sequencers to setup the play order of those patterns. Having used Buzz for years, I could dig that.

I could see this Pattern Track as another track type, and you drag and drop patterns from the Browser into it (with audition capabilities like with audio loops)

Or, even better, imo, would be a Pattern Sequencer plugin that sends out MIDI data to your Instrument tracks. You build patterns, and have a matrix/session-like view for composing/experimenting, and then you can just drag/drop patterns onto tracks for arranging. I currently work like this with Nerve (it has a nice step sequencer) and it's very, very awesome, and very fast. I've never written drum parts faster.

I agree with the two gentlemen above. Some kind of pattern based recording like in Live, Sonar 8.5 and Cubase and soon Reason 5 would be great.
The linear recording method can be a bit of a thrill killer when you want to start arranging and do a finished product.

yeah, I don't want to have to save patterns to drag back into the mix, I'm mainly talking about working with patterns in my current song

similar to live, or reason's new "blocks" feature, something along those lines.

I'm not worried about how they do it, because I know if they do it, it will be done in a great way

I just want to see it happen lol

I'm not sure i explained what was in my head very well, but I imagine one could also record into the tracks, too, like you can with Session, recording what you're playing into Arrangement . My idea would be kind of like a "detached" Session.

Eh, well, I'm sure if it's on their plate, the PreSonus devs won't disappoint with whatever they come up with

I suspect v.2 will have something like this. Knowing PreSonus it will be worth the wait.

1000000.....

Most certainly concur!

S1 is my all in all right now...except for using Live's session view. Once you are used to composing, comparing, building, and connecting, your ideas with a matrix based tool like Live's, there is really not any other way to go but a similar "tool" in another DAW.

Can't live without it, even though I could certainly live without Live 8!

I would also like to see something that could combine Reason/Record's new "Blocks" idea or just incorporate two new features in v. 2.

Nice to see you on a forum that I'm on. I visited your website about a year or so ago when I was seriously looking into Props' Record. I just re-watched your review on Record, great job. I think Props shot themselves in the foot by not having a .... VST/AU Combinator, or something similar so that you could load up NI, Spectrasonics, or whatever other plug you use, I would have purchased it if they had. I was on the beta testing team for it (and Reason 5/ Record 1.5) and had the same problem with both, I won't give up what I have found to be the best out there. Props has some phenomenal sounds, etc. but their refill market is shrinking by the day. Sometimes I think these company's actually don't want to be successful....sort of like Cakewalk not taking Sonar to the Mac platform.

Anyway, loved your website, keep up the great work!

while linear is my default way of working, sometimes certain parts just work better in a step-sequencer type deal. that way we can have the best of both worlds, and not limit our creativity

Ableton Live's Session view is a very unique and extremely intuitive way of working, and if Presonus decides to add something like this, im sure it will be at least on par with it. i would also love to see more features in S1 for live show use

I agree. The Step Sequencer in SONAR 8.5 is brilliant. I've been using it to quickly program my drums, then export a MIDI file for Studio One. I would love to have such a tool in Studio One. I'm sure that Presonus could implement something as good or better. These guys are amazing with what they've done so far. I'm loving it.

the way we sequence in s1 is almost their, I like how the midi editor comes up in relation to the track you are working on, it would just be cool to be able to compose in a more pattern based way

I'm not specifically looking for a step sequencer per say, but I don't push off any additions that can help the workflow, I know many would love a step sequencer similar to flstudio, which is very useful for working out drums and such.

there's is no better way to say what I would really like than to point to Live's session view, it's simple amazing for composition and if we had something like this in addition to the linear way of working it would be super powerful

Understood. I've not tried Live or FLStudio, but I'm sure that whatever Presonus does come up with will be killer. I can't see them not implementing something like this at some point. Hopefully v2.0.
