Hello folks!

So we had a pretty successful GROUP MIX #3 with a good selection of mixes submitted for the chosen songs by the forum users. And followed it up with a great live broadcast session with myself and Themuzic showing some mixing techniques.

One request we got was to do the same thing with a song written and recorded by one of our very own forum members.

So here you go!

If you have a song that you've written/recorded post here with a link and I'll pick two (preferably from two different genres). The submitted songs should be a simple link to a zip folder with your multitrack .wav files. There shouldn't be any MIDI tracks, so render your instruments beforehand so we don't have to deal with any mismatched VSTs or anything like that. The wavs should all be extended to the beginning of the track so that we don't have any "time synch" problems (we should just be able to pull them into our DAW and not have to line them up). And loops should be bounced as a single file so that we don't have to organize and arrange them. Please include the time signature (4/4, 3/4 6/8 etc...) and tempo (80bpm, 75bpm, 160bpm etc...) when you submit your multitrack project.

As a second option you can submit a zipped Studio One song folder as long as the effects, loops and instruments are all Presonus items (no third party loops, effects or VSTs).

I'll choose the two projects and we'll work on individual mixes.

We'll work on the mixes for a week...and then at the end we'll do another live broadcast where we talk about the mixes, and go over some specifics on how we approached the project.

I'll keep this first post updated with the current selected projects and will append any submitted mixes (preferably via Soundcloud or other similar embeddable player) to this post.

Looking forward to it!

Good idea
Slightly off topic,I did make a feature request for an online collaboration for this type of group approach top editing over the net. Would be great if something like that read implemented down the line

Here's a song I wrote and recorded recently. I t is all scratch tracks and vocal, I have done nothing to it mix wise. If you want to use it, I will bounce everything out and resend it.
I figured at least, I will get things started.

This would provide a challenge. Please don't take this in offense, but the vocals would be difficult to work with here. Some of the timing on them would be difficult to wrangle without a bit of editing. Otherwise it's a fairly well produced and arranged track.

Provide a link to the multitrack files and I'll pin them to the first post for mixing.

Who else? I know there were a few other folks that wanted to submit songs for mixing and advice!

No offense taken, I have only two hours into it right now. When I write something I put it down quickly before I forget and work on it later. Bass hum, guitars clashing at the bridge and timing issues -- well aware of it. I test song ideas everywhere; ei., YouTube, Facebook and now here. Also something I do is let it linger, by that, if I go back in two months and still like it, I will then keep it and mix it.
For the most part I just wanted to get things started.

When you guys speak of a link, do you mean storm cloud?, I do not know of anywhere else to post a wave file with a link.

Soundcloud?

Check the first post in the Group Mix #3 thread and you'll see what I mean.

If you mean hosting a whole project then you'd have to do that from something like Dropbox, Box.net, Filedropper etc...

Foxdfive,
I like the concept of your song and it sounds great. When I listened I had a rush of ideas not to MIX the song but add parts such as vocals and some guitar parts.
Very good job Sir on the idea and delivery of the song, I am a frustrated songwriter and guitar player that is just learning this great DAW and I spend more time on the tech stuff instead of laying tracks down.
But is it so Great to have people like Johnny and Gizmo and the PreSonus people make my ideas come to life and share with my family and friends.
Keep up the good work and hope to see you on the next live Johnny and Gizmo show.
Peace

I'm thinking that would be a great future topic for a show. Songwriting techniques rather than the technical aspects.

If this helps your frustration, when I spend too much time with tech stuff I cannot generate ideas. Studio One is great, but I bought it to record what I write. I have no desire to be one of the Presonus gurus, or a recording engineer. I learn what i need to. I like John and Gizmos videos and enjoy watching them. Their contrasting characteristics makes in all the more interesting -- it is entertainment and I learn some stuff. I have over thirty unpolished songs, eventually I will pick 10 or 12( my songs are short like the average attention span). If I get to the point where i cannot properly mix the songs I will put to disk, than I will have to get someone else to do it. I may be too partial to my own recordings -- an outsider will not find my songs so personal and that may make all the difference. It took me all of two hours to draft that song, I know its rough, I know it can be better; but I figured if I threw something in here, others would realize that they should not be embarrassed by throwing something in here as well. You said, "it gave you a rush of ideas", well that is because you can see it from an objective point of view, whereas, i may be too close to it.
Thanks for the kind words,
D
