Okay, I admit, I don't really have a question. It's more like whini-- err, voicing my concern as a customer. I suppose I'm in the minority, and understand it's probably not a priority, but why can't Capture display correctly on a 1024x768 monitor? It seems it must be something minor, as it magically fixes itself when using two monitors. For those unfamiliar, Capture won't resize at this resolution; it cuts off the bottom, and right side, including most of the transport controls. If I'm missing something, please advise. . .

Anyway, I was just kind of bummed, since I dug up an old FW cardbus card which worked perfectly in my $100 IBM tablet. I do have a MacBook, but thought it would be nice to dedicate a computer to the board. And, being a tablet, I could slide it in a drawer and forget about it, but still have the screen if I needed it. And, admittedly, it still works, and it gave me a good reason to learn some Capture hotkeys.

Okay, I'm done whining, but humbly ask the powers that be at Presonus would consider squashing this bug.
Thanks for listening. Erm, reading. . .

This post was somehow mysteriously buried, never appearing on the front page as near as I could tell, so I wanted to give it a bump. My apologies; if there's no interest I will let it die. . .

I have the same problem with the mixer GUI for the 44VSL when using it with my netbook. It nether re-sizes nor scrolls. I never tried Capture on that computer (no Firewire connectivity) but I understand your problem. It's these darned "short" screens that the computer manufacturers all use because they figure everyone wants to watch wide screen movies.

I think a useful Capture screen would be a time line, a big clock, a set of transport buttons, and 24 blocks arranged maybe as three rows of eight, maybe with a level meter bar on each one. Click on the block to arm it and it turns from green to red. If no tracks are individually armed, clicking on the Record button arms all of them and starts recording.

That's all you need to "capture" a live performance, and that's what Capture is for.

My understanding is they set the resolution for larger monitors. When I got an El-cheapo HP 20" widescreen the problems all evaporated with the old monitor. Now my laptop even displays it all in VSL...

.

I don't see why Capture needs waveform display. We're used to HD recorders with nothing visual but level meters. And I don't think anyone is doing any hardcore editing in Capture, even the freebie Studio One tanks Capture for editing. So they could get rid of it altogether, and switch to a horizontal arrangement that would work with small but wide screens.

Thanks for the feedback, all. It just seems weird to me that it can display fine in 1024x768, it just won't unless you have an external monitor hooked up (or trick your computer into thinking you do).

I like your guys' line of thought regarding a simplified Capture GUI, although it is pretty bare bones, but how about taking in another step further (okay maybe a couple steps ) and putting a remote transport, and some kind of feedback to let you know it's recording, right in VSL. Then, of course, add some basic control into the VSL Remote app. That would be awesome for not only starting your recordings, but for your virtual sound check. It would be great to be able to walk the room and skip between your different tracks you have recorded in a Capture session.

That's pretty strange. When I was shopping for netbooks, I saw one or two that allowed you to set the resolution higher than the native resolution and then scroll around like you were looking through a window the size of the actual screen. Had I known what I might be getting into, I would have looked harder at one of those models.

Hey! Let's not get too fancy here. Don't forget - it's supposed to be simple. And (it seems I'm in the minority here) I believe that you should be AT the console as much of the time as possible. Certainly you can be there when you start recording. That's probably when you'll have to do most of your adjustments once the band gets playing, and no matter how great you think mixing on an iPad is, it's always better with the real hardware.
