Disclaimer: I am not a mod, I am not affiliated with Presonus in any official capacity. I am simply making a request as a concerned forum member.

Please, please, please try to keep topics here somewhat on-point in regards to Studio One / music. Any topic posted with a political or religious (or other non-music) theme is going to cause strife and set our members at odds with one another. This is generally a harmonious and accommodating forum ... as long as we stick to music.

It is so dissatisfying to pop into a forum and read angry heated threads because differing opinions on completely unrelated topics abound.

Noted. But this is as much a social forum as it is a functional one for many members here. I don't find it surprising that people wish to voice opinions on non-Presonus related topics to people they might consider friends. The politics thread might come across as heated to you, but those participating might feel otherwise. I simply suggest that if something bothers you...don't read it.

Odd comment, since this forum is called Studio One General Discussion. Is it appropriate that I start a thread here about rebuiding car engines? Why have categories at all if you feel like you can say anything on any subject, and I'm supposed to just ignore it if I don't think it's on topic?

I believe the best option is to have a subforum for ROT (Really off topic) subjects. Better that those of us who don't want to read it can just skip the ROT entirely. As far as your comment, it's disingenuous IMO to think that even if we don't read the arguments, the bad feelings from them won't spill over into the rest of the forum.

I do agree that if you want to speak your mind about something, you should be able to do so -- but if it's politics, religion, or whatever (that isn't Presonus related), then, frankly, it doesn't belong in any of the existing categories. So I vote that they create a new one for R.O.T . (It obviously doesn't have to be called that, but I wouldn't be offended if the mods used my idea. ).

I have to respectfully disagree about having a dedicated forum just for stuff like that. Let me explain my reasoning...

Political and/or religious and/or other really divisive or hot button topics are really, really rare here. If you create a dedicated forum for stuff like that it will probably become much more frequent. Then what happens - I've seen it before - is that with the green light to debate all kinds of divisive topics at will, people doing that there in R.O.T. will likely carry their personal animosities over into the main forums. You know, where the whiney liberal guy and the right wing patriot guy debate something endlessly in R.O.T.fror 3-4 weeks, get on each others last nerves repeatedly, and then kinda snipe at each others posts in the main forum because now they don't like each other and they can't separate the one thing from the other thing.

Then, add on to that the potential for people coming here only for that... to push one agenda or another and it potentially gets even worse. You'd log in and press "Recent Topic" or similar and all of the angry debates are listed at the top, you know, the last word thing and all that creating perpetual motion.

So, respectfully... in my purely "from the peanut gallery" opinion, the very, very rare kinda semi-devisive OT discussions that fade away after a couple of days are probably way more preferable to the other stuff above that could easily get ugly pretty quickly. MMV, IMO, etc, etc, etc.

My $0.02.

Agreed.

I disagree with all the folks that keep saying OT threads aren't allowed. I think it's unreasonable.

You know, this is a manufacturers forum moderated by the manufacturer. All threads are aimed at support and assistance with Presonus gear and software. Look at the titles Gizz. There is nothing remotely aimed at General Discussion.

If the general topics didn't knock the "Real" topics down the list, this wouldn't be an issue, but they do. Why on earth would you even talk about politics, world events or other things in here? This is for music making people. There are other places for this.

After really thinking about it, I agree with Mike about not having a dedicated forum just for stuff like that. We shouldn't. But for me, it's because this kinda stuff shouldn't even be in here at all. There are plenty of opinion based world event forums to go to.

Don't pollute Presonus' forums with this stuff, please. It would really bring the possibility of dropping the forums down a notch, with bickering, name calling and rotten attitudes, it would be sad.

Folks like you and others would try to keep it calm and stay on point but I don't think everyone else would be able to.

Look, I know my presence here doesn't mean squat anymore these days but if more of these topics pop up here, I don't think I'd stick around here too long.

But in an attempt at keeping what few friends I have left here, I mean no disrespect to you Gizzmo, I just really disagree with on this one.

( Studio One! ) General Discussion, I have to Agree this is the PRESONUS Forum NOT Pro Tools, Cubase, SonarX1,Reeper or any other DAW related Forum other then Studio One! As well as any presonus Software or Hardware or Software and or Hardware being used in conjunction with Studio One. Customers come here to learn how to use these tools in conjunction with Studio One. I come to this Forum to Learn From other Great and Talented Musicians and to help others in any way I can. I am a Christian and a Registered Voter If I want to learn about other topics there are pleanty of other places to get more then enough information on all topics. However there is only 1 Presonus forum dedicated to Presonus Hardware and Software and The Consumers of those products. I for one would like to keep it that way. I Highly Respect ALL of the people who have made Tutorial Videos, Screen Shot Demonstrations. Found Hidden Tips and Tricks to help us all use Studio One More Effeciently! Those same people do not work for Presonus but they are all members of this forum and through there time and efforts they have shared these things with all of us out of the kindness of there hearts.Thank You ALL for your Help and Guidence!

I don't agree of disagree with any of the statements here, but think about this:

-Are we helping people make music using S1 by creating these threads and posting on them to the point they overpower the number of people wanting help with S1?

-By creating threads that poke on most peoples itches or wounds, wouldn't it hurt the forum users capability of providing help together? Don't get me wrong, if we already dwelve into heated discussions in stuff that pertrains audio in general, what will happen if such topics start to get posted in a significant number?

Again, I don't agree or disagree with statements from opposite sides, but it's a thin line that divides the need for a separate off topic forum from it being unnecessary.

Let's just say that the music should be louder than the people chatting about stuff while it plays.

Well the forum council has spoken...and so it shall be. Maybe a sticky up top with the rules about off topic posts then.

I'm not sure why you would feel that a friendship might be lost over something like this...but I can assure I am not that petty.

I never thought you were petty Gizz and there is no forum council man. No one from Presonus has even bothered to chime in on this so I'll assume It's not an issue here for them. I'm just in the way lately but I hope we don't start seeing OT after OT all about political garbage. That's my fear...... but who am I
